So what? He has a German passport now.

I think it is silly to dwell on the past origin, if someone feels so much at home in some new country that he decides to play for his new home. Shaqiri went through all Swiss youth teams from U17 on, so he is pretty much Swiss to me. ^^

He's Swiss/Albanian.

You can't out run your roots. A piece of paper doesn't change anything. However home is where the heart is and "countries" are just plots of land divided by imaginary lines.
