123406874 ways to improve the UEFA competitions Empty 123406874 ways to improve the UEFA competitions

Post by Jason Jarrett Wed Mar 28, 2012 5:12 pm

Its abundantly clear that both competitions need some form of tinkering.Several current practices don't make sense, for example,How do Man City who finished 3rd in their group get a 2nd shot at European competition, yet Arsenal, who won their group are out of Europe all together after losing in the R16.How can Europa League performances influence the number of Champions League spots a country has??Real Madrid have strolled to the semi's without any stern challenges,The Europa League is too long a tournament for clubs who have smaller squads than their CL counterparts etc.Any ideas, post them here!!!!

Idea: Expand the UCL to 36 teams.9 groups of 4.The 9 group winners and best 7 runner ups go through.Firstly,it creates an emphasis on winning the group and collecting more log points as 8 of the 9 group winners, based on most points, are the top seeds for the KO phase.Only 7 of the 9 runner ups go through, creating an inter-group battle between the 9 runner ups.It would give Matchday 6 more importance as all the teams would require those 3 log points to be a top seeded group winner or be a runner up who goes through.

IDEA:Give the Europa League winner a spot in the Champions League,as EL champion, and give the Champions League winner a spot as Champion, meaning the winning nation would get an extra CL spot.Imagine the irony as 5th place Inter Milan are cheering on AC Milan in a Champions League final....

The 9 group winners and best 7 runner ups go through Even worse than the 1st point. So 2 groups would only have 1 entry to the knockout round. How is that even fair?.

Firstly,it creates an emphasis on winning the group and collecting more log points as 8 of the 9 group winners, based on most points, are the top seeds for the KO phase Since this relates to the 9 group nonsense, it gets the same answer.

Only 7 of the 9 runner ups go through, creating an inter-group battle between the 9 runner ups.It would give Matchday 6 more importance as all the teams would require those 3 log points to be a top seeded group winner or be a runner up who goes through More nonsense.

IDEA:Give the Europa League winner a spot in the Champions League,as EL champion First reasonable idea that I agree,

and give the Champions League winner a spot as Champion, meaning the winning nation would get an extra CL spot.Imagine the irony as 5th place Inter Milan are cheering on AC Milan in a Champions League final And we are back to your usual nonsensical programming

On a serious note, I understand if you're Italian or have real Italian heritage and you're being patriotic towards an Italian product (which would be Serie A) but Serie A lost their UCL spot fairly and on their own accord. This entitlement attitude usually doesn't get anyone far so I think it would apply to Italian teams as well...
