Who should be Milan's next Captain?
Speculation is running rife that we will make Thiago Silva Captain at season's end in order to ward off interest from Barcelona who will apparently pay anything to get him. Silva's contract does not run out for several more years. Barca's interest doesn't particularly concern me because Silva has always indicated his strong loyalty to Milan...
Silva talking about the captaincy:
...but it throws up the interesting question of who our next leader should be. He would be the first foreign captain of the club since the Swede Nils Liedhom was captain in 1961 (he won 2 Scudetti as captain). At the end of the contract, in 2016, you will be 32 years old, what will you do?
“It’s the best moment in my career’ I want to speak with Galliani in 2016 to renew for another 5 years. Let’s see what happens but I want to become the flag of Milan.”
Silva talking about the captaincy:
I'd definitely be in favour of TS wearing the armband, but I'm wondering whether anyone else could think of other candidates for the captaincy? Does anyone care that the captain is not Italian?“Until recently I had no desire to be captain, then it happened with my national duty for Brazil and I changed my mind. I thought Allegri was kidding me when he informed me, Pato and Antonini had the most appearances for Milan. It changed me forever, I am a leader. Before me there Ambrosini, Seedorf, Gattuso and Abbiati, let’s see what happens next year but I’d be the first foreign captain of AC Milan after 50 years. When I put the arm band I change completely.”

Re: Who should be Milan's next Captain?
Its not really a discussion.
Thiago Silva.
He's a world class, responsible, reliable, matured player who consistently shows us why he is the best. week in. week out. Currently, no one else, inside or outside of Milan, compares to him
If anything, we should be discussing who should be vice-captain.
I'll nominate Ibrahimovic, Abbiati and..... Abate? dunno. We want to win a game of football, not annihilate the other teams self esteem and confidence to the point where they all resign as footballers and become door salesman

Re: Who should be Milan's next Captain?
Thiago Silva without a doubt, though in my eyes it would depend on whether Seedorf remained at season's end. As far as his vice-captain, Abate should be instated as one, Abbiati as a current vice-captain should obviously remain, along with anyone else who tends to wear the armband if they're still here such as Gattuso.
Thiago Silva and Abate can almost be seen as a shadow of Maldini and Gattuso, with a calm, noble face of the team mixed with the fiery, aggressive spirit of the warrior.

I agree, Silva without a doubt. As for vice-captain I would like to see Abate, Abbiati and Ibra.

Definitely Thiago Silva, no questions asked. I don't think anyone would mind having Silva be the new face of Milan, he is a world class player. As for vice-captain, I would say Abate, Abbiati, and Ibra.

Re: Who should be Milan's next Captain?
yep guys definitely thiago silva. and not just for the sake of making him stay but ... he would have earnt that captain armband with his own hardwork and that we are rewarding him back with contract extention with payrise and captain armband.
plus i seriously doubt that thiago silva will be best in the world in another club than milan. we just have to look sheva kaka both left for new pasture only to find themselves starting from scratch to earn same respect and reputation they earnt at milan.
galliani should never even allow any clubs to inquire for silva. anyway im with everyone of u with silva as a captain, and abate as a successor of silva.

Re: Who should be Milan's next Captain?
I'm pretty surprised at you guys... Thiago Silva?
I mean the guy is fantastic in every aspect, but we are Milan, a club of traditions and one that never backs off from its old, unwritten rules.
We only have to look at the date each player joined us, like we have always been.
We have Ambrosini, Seedorf, Nesta, Gattuso for now and they will be here for at least another year, so the discussion is over for now.
In the future, I can see the healthy, matured, charismatic, media darling and fans' favorite Pato as the frontrunner, though it could be argued that the likes of Abate and Antonini who have been Milanisti since they were kids also have the right to claim they should be skipper.
Anyway, we can't break the rules only because someone is great, in that case we should've made Ibra captain the moment he stepped in Milanello...
There are rules and traditions, you know...

Re: Who should be Milan's next Captain?
I understand what you are saying Iras and I don't believe Thiago Silva should get the armband just because he is great. He has not been playing with us for as long as previous captains but he is a huge influence on the team. He wears the Milan shirt with pride. His consistency is amazing and every Milanisti respects him. If those qualities shouldn't get him an armband, I don't know what else will?

Tradition or not. Thiago Silva is by far the best candidate for club captain.

If TS doesn't get the captaincy and this guy loses his job, we should hire him...

Re: Who should be Milan's next Captain?
I thought that after the chaos of the summer market in which so many of our veterans left the club and our standard bearers also departed, it would be an interesting time to re-assess our position on this matter.
As it stands, I believe the heirarchy is Ambrosini, Abbiati, Bonera, Antonini, each of them a player with a very limited first team future, though it is not inconceivably that Abbiati should hold off the challenge of Gabriel or another possible usurper for a few years yet.
There are no prizes for guessing who I want as our next captain, however it will be interesting to hear of any alternatives.

Re: Who should be Milan's next Captain?
I think Montolivo would be a good choice. He is probably our most important player, keeping in mind the squad we have right now. Giving him the armband would make him feel more comfortable and authoritative which is very much required for his position. It is kind of weird to see that Montolivo is the most Internationally experienced player we have in our line-up (barring Mexes maybe). He has also had previous experience as Captain, so it isn't uncharted territory for him.

Re: Who should be Milan's next Captain?
Definitely not Abate. Now is not the time to give a young and inexperienced player that is still very much in development the armband. It needs to go to either Prince, Ambrosini or Abbiati. Experience and the ability to step up and take the lead are the criteria we need to be enforcing and Abate doesn't have either.

A leader will be made this season. It will be the player who chooses to to take control of the season instead of letting the season take control of his team.

Re: Who should be Milan's next Captain?
I think Montolivo will be captain material after a season or 2. I think he will be a great leader. I don't think abate or nocerino can carry they captains armband. If Ambrosini leaves next season Abbiati will be the captain then Montolivo.

Re: Who should be Milan's next Captain?
SES should be our captain if he keeps going the way he is as he is starting to act a little like Ibra as he lets the team know they need to do better if something is not done right and he is showing all the class that a captain of milan should have.....but maybe in 2-3 years as giving him captaincy now might go to his head and we don't want him becoming like boateng who let that #10 get to his head and basically try to do everything.

I'm starting to like El Shaarawy more and more each game. How frustrated he became when Pato screwed up his pass. That Passion
