Re: Fabrice Muamba
I hope he recovers ....
There should be more strict medical testing in football for players, especially with the type of training that they have to undergo.
If they did the right test(echocardiogram, stress testing, 24 hour Holter meters), they can very easily pick up on structural defects in the heart(I am inclined to believe that this heart attack is not as a result of plaque in the arteries, but rather something he was born with). I'm sure they do some tests, but not the more specific ones(espescially the echocardiogram).
However, these heart defects are very rare, and even more rare for them to not pick it up before something can happen. Clubs may not want to spend money to give these expensive tests to players.

Re: Fabrice Muamba
Heart attacks are common for footballers, majority of them dont end up with collapsing or even worse death for eg. Im quite sure it wasnt coz of Muambas weak heart or something, Im pretty sure why this incident accured.

That is bad.
Critically ill?
Is there like a cultural difference here or was it a virus-caused heart attack?

Re: Fabrice Muamba
he was put in Intensive Care Unit
its pretty much 24 hr care, its one of the cleanest parts of a hospital and its pretty serious if he is put in there
but dont worry, its protocol when its a heart attack
i hope he comes back
remember De La Red, he had such a great future ahead of him, but first things first, he should be cleared to play and he should return healthy

At least he's not dead. Fight on Muamba. Fight on.
I remember Antonio Puerta died a couple days after his incident, and this seemed worse, so i'm not optimistic just yet. It's not over till it's over.

Just clicked on what you said after Red expressed the same doubt
Its a cultural difference indeed, Critically ill doesnt mean he has a severe case of throwing up.

Re: Fabrice Muamba
I woudnt make much out of the hospital department name. It can be quite deceiving.
My old man has had numerous heart attacks over the years, and every time he was admitted the hospital ward had a new name.
High dependancy unit
Coronary care
Intensive care

Doesn't have to mean throwing up necessarily...but in the U.S "critically ill" implies an ongoing disease/infection/virus rather than an attack/episode and is a saying almost never associated with something like a heart attack
I think the U.S equivalent is "critical condition"

Re: Fabrice Muamba
Muamba suffered cardiac arrest :/
The London Chest Hospital have confirmed that Bolton's Fabrice Muamba suffered a cardiac arrest during the FA Cup clash with Tottenham on Saturday.
The 23-year-old is anaesthetised in intensive care after he collapsed during the quarter-final at White Hart Lane, which was abandoned due to the incident shortly before half-time.
In a joint statement from the hospital and Bolton Wanderers, it was confirmed that he remained in critical condition after he suffered a cardiac arrest.
The statement read: "Fabrice Muamba remains in a critical condition in intensive care in the Heart Attack Centre at The London Chest Hospital.
"He was admitted to the hospital yesterday evening after collapsing at White Hart Lane, where he sustained a cardiac arrest during the FA Cup Quarter Final against Tottenham Hotspur.
"Fabrice received prolonged resuscitation at the ground and on route to The London Chest Hospital, where his heart eventually started working. As is normal medical practice, Fabrice remains anaesthetised in intensive care and will be for at least 24 hours.
"His condition continues to be closely monitored by the cardiac specialists at the hospital."
