Re: The best finisher
Intresting Sushi.
This is the thing, I dont think anyone here bar Bayern fans/German league fans can really talk about Gomez.
Generally speaking, they dont watch him week in and week out like they do their own players/players in their own league.

Re: The best finisher
Of course there is another motive here.
You cling to stats like a lfe raft, you said " in football it is the numbers that count in the end"...if that is your view, then you surely cannot rate Zidane.
So again, not talking about finishing or goals...for the 3rd time...overall game.
I understand why you dont want to answer though. You cant say Zidane is a medicore player, even though statistically, he is.

Re: The best finisher
He shoots what he can make.
But he dosen't hesitate to take a shot....once he sees it he takes it.That's why I like him man...he knows what he can do.Takes some tough ones too..but I yea he dosen't take many shots.
Someone like Benz dosen't have that though......he'll pass up a tap in for an easier tap in then try a couple ridiculous shots....it's tough game.
Respect Higz though....he has had to deal with some amazing BS from Ronaldo.
I think someone who should be mentioned in the whole scheme of things is Pedro.
Ambidextrous...he'll finish any one on one,......always maintained he's right there with Messi as the best finisher at Barca.

Re: The best finisher
I already mentioned that Zidane is in a different category. It doesn't make sense to apply numbers for finishing to him. As this thread is about "The best finisher", where numbers do count, Zidane is simply not applicable as example. The Franchise wrote:I understand why you dont want to answer though. Re: The best finisher
Pedro has very good finishing for a winger, but with the horrid form he's been I don't think he deserves to be mentioned here.
Higuain with a constant starting spot and while being the focal point of attack could rack up Gómez type numbers, I'd say. He's a good finisher but most poachers thrive on confidence and Higgs being in Madrid makes it tough for him. Not that Gómez has it easier. Gómez a streak scorer? After (almost) two 30 goal seasons and top numbers in the CL I highly doubt that...
Most of his goals are laughably easy, but he can bring out some crazy finishing if he has to.
No frakking way he's at Messi level finishing because he doesn't even have half the technique. But again, Messi is on a completely different level.

Re: The best finisher
Falcao is as good as anyone. I dont think finishing wise Messi is in a different level, he misses his fair share of chances. But Barca create a billions chances every game, he creates so many chances in a game, he will end up scoring despite the misses.
Now, Falcao also has missed some easy chances this season, but normally he is quite solid, imo as good as anyone in the world.

Re: The best finisher
if its all about numbers then messi and cr is not top-50 best finishers in the world. because their numbers in NT suckrwo power wrote:When you talk about "finishing" it IS about the numbers. If you don't score you haven't finished.
Zidane has a completely different job description, so he isn't to be judged about his finishing skills.
you can rate finishing abilities by watching players every game. stats will not tell you the truth. numbers depends in which team you play, where you play, finishing is another history you can see it only watching them what decisions they make when they get chances
also zidane and r.carlos goal stats were similar in r.madrid. but we all know that zidane was better finisher, carlos was faster and had powerfull shoot, but if you gave the ball to carlos inside box he would waste it.
and finally in pes 2005 i would score more goals with r.carlos than with R9

Re: The best finisher
A lot of unbacked statements in this thread so far....
I have yet to see anyone give me a real reason with specific details as to why anyone is better than Messi at finishing.

Re: The best finisher
For me finishing is'nt a stat you can just solely label as finishing - it's a combination of 3 attributes.
The most important is obviously technique, how well the player strikes the ball. After it is composure, a player with a good shooting technique who rushes in his mind always seems to fail to score ala Suarez. Heading is an art of finishing, players who score a lot with their head can add that to their finishing attribute.
Some statistics are pretty useless here, Ronaldo is one of the best finishers in the game but has a bad shot/goal ratio? It's quite simple - he shoots from difficult position because he is a tremendous finisher and ambitious about getting goals. That makes him miss more then others who shoot when they feel they are bound to score more.
Anyway I talk about this season from what I've saw. Messi is the best finisher on the ground his technique combined with his composure and flair is the best. RVP has the best technical shot, his technique is unparalleled - imo no-one can score the goals that RVP does. Ronaldo is the best all round finisher, he will score from fk, pk, aerial threats, long shots & inside the box.
There's no seperating the "best" finisher out of these 3 for me they just have different styles and consistently doing the same job. Certainly no one of these 3 players is far greater than the other at just the finishing category.

Re: The best finisher
Gomez and Cavani are the best for me, they are clinical infront of goal, almost always slot it in the corners no matter what situation. Higuain is only a little bit behind these 2.

This list is becoming more difficult to build , now I have to add the likes of Falcao and Huntelaar.

Well, that's because THE best is usually a very problematic thing to determine. Why not say they all belong to the best?
