Juventus lose Barzagli and Chiellini

Juventus will be without Andrea Barzagli and Giorgio Chiellini for Wednesday’s Serie A game at Bologna.

Both centre-backs picked up injuries in Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Chievo which will leave boss Antonio Conte short of options.

Barzagli, who had played in every minute of the campaign, was taken off before half-time with a calf complaint.

Chiellini, meanwhile, finished the game with a calf problem but only because the Old Lady had already used all of their substitutes.

The duo will undergo tests on Monday, but La Stampa is suggesting that Barzagli will be out for around a week, while Chiellini could be sidelined for three.

Conte will now use Leonardo Bonucci and January arrival Martin Caceres in the middle at the Stadio Dall’Ara.

As much as I hate to say it we now have to play Bonucci on weds.

We could play 4 across the backline like DC Bonucci licht/Caceres licht/Caceres.
OR
We could play with 3 like Caceres Bonucci lichstiener. With 2 wingbacks in DC and Pepe.

Personally I'd like to see magnusson getting a chance!

I dont wanna see this 3-5-2 formation again!! 4-3-3 with pdc bonbon (no other option) caceres and licht on the back

Giacherini quag/matri and adp or krasic or elia... Vucinic would mess up like last match

Lich-Caceres-Bonucci-De Ceglie is the most likely back 4.

Back 3 would be Lich-Bonucci-Caceres.

Better 4 man defence... Also so that pdc can improve

No ban for Juventus and Bologna in view of the recovery on Wednesday afternoon at 18:30. Count Pepe and may even recover vida, who have served the turn against Chievo stop imposed by the court sports.

I do not agree with any formation with three defenders. Scoring has been a problem lately, but you Juve cannot solve their scoring problems by playing three defenders when their two best defenders are injured.

BTW, 3-5-2 IS A COMBINATION OF 4-4-2 AND 4-3-3.... THIS IS WHY CONTE SWITCHED TO IT!

I understand that the 3-5-2 is more of a 4-4-2 with licht or PDC moving forward, but with a weakened back line, Juve should be keeping its back four mostly on defense.

4-3-3 with Pepe and Giaccherini is good option they will track back

3-5-2 is a HORRIBLE formation for us.

We should stick to what we do best - 4-3-3: when on song with a full team, we are dynamite.

Bonucci is average in a 3 man defense, or 4 man defense.

Having 2 other centre backs with him helps some of this mistakes go unnoticed or rather, unpunished.

Barzagli and Chiellini will make Matri look good as a Central defender.
