Use a free one like MSE or Avast. They are free and two of the best

AVG is shit I rather take a virus than install that crap on my PC. Wait till you get a infection. It deletes your system files and at reboot your OS is gone. Remove it before you lose your data

Try ZenOK Free Antivirus. It is fast

Perhaps, you may try Kaspersky to see how it go. You can download a trial version but is not acuare

Perhaps, you may think Norton suck. However, the unexpected scanning may be due to an attack. Norton then raise a defense. So don't blame on Norton, which is working for your security.

I am surprised no one mentioned Bit Defender, the best imo I used for years never had an issue, then I eventually turned gay, opps I mean switched to Apple.

But once i think of renewing my laptop i am going back straight.

jeezz.... thanks to you mate......

u kknow what... this just happen to mine.... AVG is b...s. .... complete b....s.
i installed that s...t temporarily and it almost f...ked my PC. lucky for me i just had restored into factory restore settings so since i hadnt installed whole lot of program i had nothing to loose.

guys never use this AVG b...s program spoony is right. i installed this s..t and everytime i have automated win uppdates done, then it gives unnecessary virus alert to critical, and actually important system file is flagged, and u click the explanation on that file, it gives nothing in their webpage.

AVG is absolutely rubbish. had my motherboard making some weird noise after one of my system file was removed.

damn.... so i immediately removed this s...t

im def. gonna get paid subscription now. im freaking out. T.T

once again thanks spoony, and guys!!! dont install AVG!!!!

i aint that happy still that Symantec has always been increasing their subscription fee once in a while but they are the most safest with the best history out there so well im gonna get norton now.

Why switch back? I have been using my Mac for 4 years now and I have not had a single virus, plus, it is still working as if it is brand new unlike other computers.

i hear that Mac OS security against virus is top notch even without antivirus, unlike PC..

PC is worst so vulnerable.

Yeah exactly, I dont have an antivirus on my Mac and yet I have not had a single virus in the past 4 years. I honestly hate anti-viruses, when they expire they start creating all sort of trouble on the computer and i believe its a marketing strategy to attract customer, on the other hand, apple does not need to attract customers any thing the company produces is a likely success due to the huge fan base, therefore, they update their system regularly and provide excellent protection free of charge.

It's not that Macs have better security, it's more that people just don't bother writing viruses for the platform, as there's so little market share.

Getting a virus is more your own fault than the antivirus: I've been running without an antivirus for the past half year and I've had no problems.

There are some viruses on Macs but they are very minor compared to PCs, Plus, even if people create a virus for the Mac, Apple will be quick to release an update counteracting the effects of the virus on the system.

ur absolutely right. this has prompted me to change my allegiance from PC to Mac. i always am so much comfortable using PC or laptop all the time and i am very much a HP customer for years now. both laptop and PC. no problems whatsoever except antivirus or internet security.

what bothers most is that the website, even though ur pretty much thinking ur in safe zone watching online streams and all but these popups are pissing me off all the time, and sometimes it prompts u to install malicious adware.

speaking of antivirus expiry... s...t SYMANTEC is worst.... u still have f... kin 90 bloody days till expiry and every few days u get s.. tty notification to open ur wallet ...

and oh... the most pissed off moment ... my experience with symantec is that, automated subscription .... without proper kind of warning its already subscribed. actually now they have modified this page to get a proper attention to customers, but before it wasnt!!!

u know, normally when u purchase a subscription from net, the website automatically already sets the purchase settings into AUTOMATED one, when u first make subscription... atleast i had those moments... and once it expired.. i think it automatically purchased a new subscription without like proper consent...

what is most frustating is that.. these companies... when it comes to purchase and automated settings of purchase, they put it somewhere where it is so f... kin difficult to find in website.

believe me, i have been very much frustrated with these kind of things ... these are the most important issues that these companies hide to trick customers and later blame customers that they are not paying attention themselves and not reading the websites and policies properly...

i agree... my friends most of them in Japan are all mac users and they say once they turn to mac.. u never feel like going back to PC... lol ... i mean also in terms of security there has been lot of positive feedbacks...

Just use Adblock, its free.
Also, the thing that I like the most about Mac is that I no longer need to fix it, I used to delete viruses by myself without the use of antivirus but sometimes it took me days and now with Mac I dont need to at all.

So I now have this problem too, what's the consensus opinion and who is the most qualified here to give it?

Edit: after reading through this thread I've decided to go for the MSE + Comodo free combination

Try BitDefender. It's number 1 in the rankings I think. All round pretty good.
