Re: Dani Alves : Right Boss
Weather Enrique wants to move on from Alves or not, that logic from futbol is quite typical of him, as in absurd lol
Signing one CB and one midfielder = the entire backline and midfield dont need improving? Really? Just right back?
Again, Enrique may want to move on from him but that quote isnt proof of it in any which way.

Well if we did want him to stay don't you think we would have come out and said so?
Q: "Is it true that the club is looking to sell Alves?"
A: "Alves is a great player and we want him to stay"
That's all it takes.

I don't see what's wrong with my logic. He's obviously not talking about the GK position after buying / promoting 3 new goalkeepers. Neither can it be the forward line with Messi, Neymar, Suarez, Pedro and Deulofeu. Why do we need another midfielder? Busquets, Mascherano, Song, Rakitic, Xavi, Iniesta, Rafinha. Plus Bartomeu (or Zubi, I don't remember but one of those 2) himself said we're set in midfield now. No rumours whatsoever in those positions either. CBarca is right, it could be another CB he's talking about but that Alves' position isn't exactly secure is also obvious. Latest covers of the Catalan press:
Alves' contract runs out next summer. Where is his contract renewal offer if Lucho counts on him? Like with Mascherano who immediately got renewed when Lucho was appointed. The situation is very clear. If Cuadrado comes and someone makes an acceptable bid for Alves, Alves will be gone. If not he will stay for another season and be gone next summer for free.
Obviously I have no "proof" as no one will officially come out and say "we defo want Alves gone". Those who observe the interviews of the Barca staff and directors and the press headlines over the entire summer however get a feeling what is going on within the club. If MD and Sport report all summer that Alves is on the market he IS on the market. And if by this time Lucho still doesn't deny those rumours it's semi official.

Of course so, but thats not really my point. Im surprised you missed it. He may want to move on from Alves, but that quote doesnt confirm it. It just confirms what we already know...we have areas to strengthen. Trying to glean more from it than that is a stretch.

If you (Enrique in this case) considers Mascherano a defender then I think you can easily question if he is counting on Song or Roberto..plus with Xavi age, you have to think about midfield.
If more likely he considered Mascherano a midfielder, then we a CB short obviously.

Alves: "Next year I will move to England, football's birthplace. This will be my last season at Barça."
Via marca
His contract was expiring anyway I think.

Rumor has it that we offered a 1 year renewal with possible 2 more years depending on minutes played but he has rejected it. He wants 2 guaranteed years with a possible 1 year extension.

I would offer him a 1 year + 1 extra year option. Nothing more.

Re: Dani Alves : Right Boss
at this point i would offer him a two year contract with possible third..
like honestly we need to get rid of douglas and one of adriano / montoya.
buy fabinho and that 25 year old italian we're linked to.
done dealio we're set on the rightback department for a while.

Re: Dani Alves : Right Boss
Why are we doing this now and causing controversies?
Speak to him, tell him we will make a offer in the summer and lets concentrate on football now. If he doesnt want to wait and agrees with someone else before then, then so be it...but trying to do negotiate now is a bad idea unless you are giving him exactly what he wants..which we obviously arent.
How stupid do we think he is by the way
1 year deal and options 2 years depending on if you play x% of games.
Come on now, thats a 1 year deal hidden behind mumbo jumbo..we all know how it goes when deals are based on % of games (Thiago).

Re: Dani Alves : Right Boss
His contract expires in June. I'm not sure if I'm right, but if we let his contract expire and only then sign him, wouldn't that count as a new signing by FIFA? As opposed to a contract extension.

I would be quite surprised, Enrique seems very set on his best 11 players and usually that only means a like for like change if someone is missing.

2 great games in a row. Playing for the contract obviously and though I don't think he deserves a new one, we've not really got other options.

Re: Dani Alves : Right Boss
He definitely does deserve it imo
Give him two years. We need him next year anyway, what's so bad about keeping him one year after that and then not renewing after that year?
He's not shown many signs of slowing down anytime soon. Against Bayern he was like prime Alves ffs

Such comments tick me off.He has always bled for the club and never given less than 100%.To say he is now playing for a contract, thereby implying that he was just lazing around previously is injustice to Alves.

I wasn't trying to imply that he doesn't care for the club nor undermining his contribution over the years but I'm just simply following the voice of reason and that forces me to think he simply doesn't the deserve it. A few of prime Alves performances don't wary such a lucrative contract for a 32-year-old.
Not that I care much, it's not my money. If he can still give us that at the very top then I'm all for renewing him because the sight of Montoya or Adriano donning the right back position frightens me to death. Even though it'd only be for half a season.

Re: Dani Alves : Right Boss
I dont understand why some ppl are thinking he doesnt deserve it. Hes still WC and much better than any RB we have and any team have atm. U would see the difference if we dont have him in the team. Players like Montoya may do well for a couple of games, but long term Alves offers so much more than players like a Montoya. U just dont have another Dani Alves!

He deserves it and it makes sense if it's not a long term contract, as I have always defended. Hope he renews.

Re: Dani Alves : Right Boss
According to Cadena Ser, the club has made an offer to Alves which he deemed not good enough and he broke off negotiations. He has called a press conference for Tuesday to announce his decision to leave the club.
According to people on twitter, he has 4 better offers on the table for him. Not sure if this is reliable at all.
Oh well, Douglas/Montoya for half a season it is!

yeesshhhhhhh
Would rather start Bartra at RB all season than Montoya (who is rumored to be leaving to Liverpool anyway) and Douglas
Heck at this point I would even give Adama a shot over those 2 numbskulls lol

Re: Dani Alves : Right Boss
Just pay the guy for Christ sake.
Has he not done a great job the most recent months? Especially in the big games has he not proven his value?
Even If he was playing just average, we should resign him because we dont have the ability to replace him at the moment.
I get they dont want to give a long term contract to someone they only want for a short time, but we arent in the position of power here. Just take the hit, in his last year you have to pay too much for a guy you may not use...thats tough shit, its the price you pay for poor planning in the first place, signings a reliable second in command much earlier to gradually phase him out.
