FC Schalke 04
FC Gelsenkirchen-Schalke 04 e.V.
Founded: 4th May 1904
Nickname: Die Königsblauen (The Royal Blues) or Die Knappen (The Miners)
Schalke 04 are based in Gelsenkirchen, North Rhine-Westphalia. Schalke is one of the districts of the Ruhr Area town Gelsenkirchen which was the most important coal mining town in Europe in the early 20th century, hence the nickname Die Knappen (miners). S04 is one of the most popular football teams in Germany, albeit the number of successes is rather small. Nonetheless, Schalke managed to win the UEFA cup with the legendary team of "Euro Fighters" coached by Huub Stevens in 1997.
With about 110,000 members, Schalke 04 are the second biggest sports club in Germany (after Bayern München). Their stadium is the fantastic Veltins-Arena, formerly called "Arena auf Schalke" which has a capacity of 61,673 people for domestic matches (seats+terraces) and 54,142 people when it is converted into an all-seater stadium for international matches.
Schalke 04 have a long-lasting rivalry with Borussia Dortmund, and the matches between the two teams are known as as the Revierderby ("Revier" being the local name for the coal mining area in the Ruhr Area).
Schalke have a famous and very productive youth academy, the Knappenschmiede

Breaking News: As Raúl and Farfán are still in doubt to play for Schalke against Plzen and Pukki isn't allowed to play in the EL this season, Torres might be called up for the Schalke attack!
The Spaniard convinced Stevens in training and test matches, so he might get his first chance among the seniors. Oh, maybe I should mention I'm talking about Manuel Torres Jiménez (21) from the Schalke 04 II team

Re: FC Schalke 04
So, first leg of the EL round is PLzen 1:1 Schalke with goals from Darida for Plzen in the 22nd minute and the Hunter for Schalke in the 75th minute. Plzen were actually better than Schalke over most of the match, but Schalke equalized nonetheless.

Re: FC Schalke 04
Drat. This weekend seems to be bad for collarbones. Yesterday, Patrick Herrmann from BMG broke his collarbone, earlier the day the young Slovenian ski jumper Peter Prevc broke his collarbone due to a fall after he reached the record width of 225.5m, and just before the break in the match Schalke vs Wolfsburg, the young goalkeeper Lars Unnerstall also broke his collarbone after a collision with Mario Mandzukic. Such a tragic weekend for these athletes! I hope they will fully recover as soon as possible! Fortunately, Schalke could field experienced keeper Timo Hildebrand as replacement for the time being.

Not too many Schalke bandwagoners despite Señor Raúl, Julian Draxler, the Hunter and Teemu Pukki here ^^

Well, from his interviews it sounds as if Raúl has a lot of fun at Schalke. I hope they'll kick out Plzen tomorrow and get into the next round of the EL!

Yeah. And it would be even more fun if they'd throw out ManUtd in the process. (ManUtd looks more beatable this season than the last )

Schalke are my team on FIFA12 Career mode. Great team with loads of good young talent, sort of like Dortmund.

Viktoria Plzen fought valiantly, but Schalke finally beat them after extra time with an aggregate 4:2. Now Schalke has to play Twente Enschede next.

Yeah, I felt a bit sorry for the Plzen goalkeeper for the last goal. But then, a Hunter hat-trick is a cool thing, too. The red card for Plzen was a real stupidity by the guy who committed that unnecessary elbow check, otherwise it would have been even closer in the end.

Re: FC Schalke 04
yeah true, raul missed so many chances , that too in europe.. huntelaar
s second goal was amazing .. even the first goal. poaching like that looks easy but it requires a lot of intelligence to anticipate where that ball would go and technique to finish chances like that too

Looks like Chinedu Obasi (sprained ankle), Kyriakos Papadopoulos (suspected broken nose) and Christian Fuchs might not be available for the match against Schalke due to injuries suffered in the Plzen match. Lewis Holtby is expected to return from injury, though.
