Though he's got a point, there really aren't that many great defenders in the Bundesliga.

Then again, there's more than in La Liga, for example. In fact, if you really look around, there just isn't many really great defenders anywhere, like, at all.

These times there's still people around who are impressed by John f*cking Terry of all people, that shows you that quality defenders have gotten way rare.

La liga teams play high line of defence most of the time. The requirements are different but they aren't as bad as people make them out to be eco smile

And all Bundesliga teams play catenaccio only, that's why that word is German, or where did logic leave your argument exactly? :/

Logic? I see little of it in your post because I didn't mention anywhere that Bundesliga teams play catenaccio, did I? eco smile

On topic, BL teams play balanced most of the time than anything. It's not your high line possession game but also not park the bus tactics eco smile
A technical EPL with less emphasis on physicality would decribe BL the best eco smile

This sounds less insane, and I actually agree.

My point was: A lot of BL teams play a high line of defence, of course it's not as attack-minded as La Liga, but there's hardly park-the-bus teams in the first flight anymore.

Owned the right flank on his own, I didn't expect it from him. Robben, CR7 and Coentrao didn't matter. He bossed them all. The goal wasn't his fault, piggy lost the ball in forward movement, Lahm had to play CB so CR7 got space out wide.

LAHM is a GOAT! Ronaldo was wise to keep away from him most of the match.

As usual the best Fullback in the world,.

what is really scaring is how Alaba will soon overtake him as the best fullback in the world.

Lahm-Robben

Alaba-Ribery.

Hate to rain on the parade, but I really dont think he is the best in the position. My bias aside.

He did a good job defensively, minus the goal. But in attack, again, minus the goal, he was pretty below average.

If Lahm is a better defender than Dani Alves, the gap in their attacking skills is bigger.

But this isnt about comparisons. Indeed, he was defensively solid but Cristiano made it easy on him by disappearing as he does.

Alves might be a great right back but Lahm is not only better defensively and linking up with midfield attack but he's also a leader and can play very well on both side

Nope.

He might be Bayern captain, but that doesnt make him a leader. I see someone very quite on the pitch and just someone who wears an armband.

And now way does he link up better than Alves, look how many assists Alves had provided for Messi alone.

Then add such things like, only Messi and Xavi have had more touches on the ball in the opposition's half than him and only two players have completed more passes in the final third. 63.5% of his touches are in the opposition's half.

Nobody links up better than him.

That's what my thoughts on Messi captaining the Argentine NT were, yet you defended him in stating that introverts can be good leaders, they don't have to be the cavemen shouting type. I agreed.

:vagi:

Alves is better than Lahm offensively, yes. Lahm's a better defender and can play LB if needed, so versatility points I guess. They're both world class.

Lahm was given a bit of a rough time against Ronaldo, but he completely dominated Di Maria. And that challenge where he got a yellow card was excellent. He put his body between Di Maria and the ball. Thats perfect defense, and shouldnt have even been a foul.

Sure, but if you remember I did also say Messi leads by example. As in, when we need him he comes alive and leads the way in his play and his pressing.

I dont really get that from Lahm. But if im fair, thats part positional too.

But anyway, I didnt really want to make it Alves vs Lahm. But I did feel the need to say I cant cosign the "best fullback" thing, especially after this performance. Not that it was bad.
