SOPA hasn't been passed yet and likely won't be... hell, it wouldn't have been able to touch MegaUpload anyway. Why are you blaming that bill?matpol wrote:SOPA sucks.
Megaupload was my favourite file hosting. It is very sad day for me. Megaupload

Re: RIP Megaupload
Torrent hosting tends to be decentralised by the very nature of torrents... so it would be extremely difficult for them to stop the torrents.ragbirjosh wrote:Doe's anyone Know if SOPA will be able to touch torrent sites?
If you looks back at my previous posts in the thread on SOPA (Politics section) you'll see an article I link to that points out some pretty glaring limitations to SOPA.

Re: RIP Megaupload
videozer and videobb are decent substitute but I just hate my the fast forward/rewind option compared to Megavideo.
Anyways I don't get why so many people think http://109.236.83.66/ is the new megaupload.
It's obviously fake. It seems like it was written by a teenager.
+ owner got arrested, how can they be coming back without dealing with legal issues? Common sense

fake enough?

RIP megaupload. Still rapidshare is the nr1 worlds file sharing hosts now and its going to be hard taking that site off, since Rapidshare has army of lawyers and juristicion under their hand. Not to mention it would be impossible because Wonderlands laws dont apply to Europe.

Yes, it was completely unrelated to Megaupload's blatant and illegal practices. The xcx wrote:USA y u ruin peoples lives?
Paying people to upload copyrighted files, "taking illegal files down" just long enough to get past the casual observance then putting them back up, and advertising their illegal content.

No, Youtube is very (overly) proactive in taking down copyrighted content and/or closing such videos in countries that don't allow them.imalegend wrote:RedOranje wrote:Yes, it was completely unrelated to Megaupload's blatant and illegal practices. The xcx wrote:USA y u ruin peoples lives?

Uploaded.to is another one, they've banned US IP addresses.
Some that still work(for now): WUpload, Oron, Mediafire, HulkShare, Hotfile(I think), RS, Uploadstation, Filefactory, Depositfiles, Bayfiles

Youtube only takes them down when Copyright holder asks them to do so....the same could be said for those file up-loading sites too...they too sometimes delete the files for copyright infringement

Re: RIP Megaupload
But Megaupload didn't do that... at least not regularly. They would take the file down for a day or two then put it back up as soon as they felt the copyright holder was no longer paying attention... that was the type of action that get them into trouble with the law.imalegend wrote:RedOranje wrote:No, Youtube is very (overly) proactive in taking down copyrighted content and/or closing such videos in countries that don't allow them.imalegend wrote:RedOranje wrote:Yes, it was completely unrelated to Megaupload's blatant and illegal practices. The xcx wrote:USA y u ruin peoples lives?
