The former goalkeeper has voiced his opinion that the Fifa Ballon d'Or nominee would not have been a star back in the old
days and neither would his Barca team-mates

Comparing between the players of two different eras, it's too difficult to tell for sure.

But I say he still would've been one of the best in his position if he did play back then.

El Loco Gatii can't even be considered a football pundit to be fair.
He is just a crazy entertainer.

Instead of talking crap, he should carry out his promise, and blow his head with a gun on the Bernabeu grass.

Gatti is well known in argentina and spain for being an unintentional clown and for making outrageously stupid comments at daily bases.

There's really no reason other than comedy to pay attention to him.

He is right. The defenders had more liberty and attackers have less protection before. Messi will not play on a Argentina team of Maradona time. It was necessary much more skill and fysical strength against defenders of before. Messi have not the capability.

World Cup argument is lame. Plenty of top notch players never won one. How about R9....he shouldnt be mentioned in any list of GOATS since he never won a Champions League (mind you he played with los Galacticos). Just using that as a reverse example, since R9 is always mentioned as top notch even though Messi won more than him at club level. It's a silly arguement, no deniying these guys have top notch talent. Not Messis fault Argentina sucks

Today's Getafe >>> 1986 England national team
Just look at Maradona's goal. nobody fighting or tackling maradona, lazy defenders follow him

Now this goal. Of course much improved tactics and defence, much faster football.

Defenders make 1 tackle in Maradona's goal, in Messi's goal defenders make 3 tackles and they run their ass off to get the ball from messi. Now how old football was rougher and better? stop overrating past my biased friends. 90% of past players would fail against teams like getafe and zaragosa today

Getafe had actually IIRC one of the best defenses if not the best defense in the league that season

Funny thing was, Messi wasn't in the next match, and Getafe won the match 4-0 and advanced next round.

Messi goal is technically better, though Maradona's was in greater stage. Scary thing is, Messi was 19 at the time. Very Happy

i'm not talking about which competitions they played. i just showed you moments that how defenders were fighting for the ball in old times. today's getafe players fight for the ball better than old england team defenders. now imagine today's barcelona or r.madrid defenders. is there any comparison? today's defence is much more improved and faster + tactics. Theres no comparison
