NBA star Kevin Garnett purchases a small stake in Roma

Rivals on the basketball court, Kevin Garnett is making sure LeBron James doesn't get too far ahead of him on the European soccer scene.

Roma has confirmed to the Associated Press that the 35-year-old Boston Celtics star has agreed to purchase a small stake in the Serie A club. Garnett accepted the offer from James Pallotta, one of the four Boston-based executives who purchased the team in August.

Over the past few years, Garnett has been very vocal in his interest in soccer, claiming his passion for English side Chelsea and star player Didier Drogba.

Garnett becomes the second NBA player to purchase a stake in a soccer club after James bought a stake in Liverpool FC earlier this year. James, who plays on the Miami Heat, attended his first game at Anfield to watch the club draw 1-1 against Manchester United in October.

The Garnett and James deals are tied together because new Roma President Thomas DiBenedetto is also a limited partner in the Fenway group, which owns the Boston Red Sox baseball team and Liverpool.

Ironically, Liverpool is one of Roma's rivals outside of Italy.

yeah they gelled abnormally quickly. Such a beautiful team in their prime. Just glad Paul got a ring. That they all got a ring actually.

Never followed the Celtics much, but this is good stuff. Won't make much of an impact either here or in Italy, but it's good to muse about.

I love Garnett even since his Timberwolves days. I had his jersey white Minnesota 21:) I used to play Minny in NBA Live. Great that he won a ring with Celtics. IMO if he didn't have injury Celtics would repeat in 2009, they were the best team that year, just like in 2010, but this time Perkins got injury and Lakers won in 7 in close game. Now, Celtics are done, not title contender anymore. KG is also past his best, but not done.

As for this new, who cares what he purchased. He is a legend. ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE BABY!!!
