Boardwalk Empire
Show deserves it's own thread like the others.
Absolutely amazing group of actors and the period of the 1920s Prohibition-era is perfect as a backdrop to the power struggle in Atlantic City.
Steve Buscemi has always been in the shadow of bigger stars, but I'm so glad to see this guy get his own show, star billing and is getting so much acclaim as Nucky Thompson....he will challenge Bryan Cranston and Jon Hamm for the Best Actor award at the Golden Globes honestly and though he may lose....with BWE going into it's 3rd season and Breaking Bad going into it's final season as well as Mad Men nearing the end of it's cycle....it's only a matter of time before this show starts dominating.

Watched one random episode on TV and didn't find it entertaining at all.
I think it's just because I can't relate to shows that are set that far back in time.

Re: Boardwalk Empire
I've got the first two seasons and still have only seen the 1st episode. The one directed by Scorcese. From what I saw it's great and I've been meaning to watch it but juts have too much on my plate.
Although my family did spoil it for me during Christmas dinner by telling my what happens in the season 2 finale.

- Spoiler:
- Michael Pitt was one of the best on the show, why'd they kill him off?

Great show, i love period drama & next season will only get better with the rise of Capone & co. " You can't be half gangster", Nucky will go full measure.

- Spoiler:
- Will be interesting to see where they go on Season 3 after killing of the second main lead. I was really shocked they killed off Jimmy so quickly. Shame we won't see him anymore, Michael Pitt was a great actor.

Brilliant TV series, awesome acting, dialogue and costume. Steve Buscemi, is probably my favourite actor now, also liked the character of Agent Van Holden, weird and interesting. A must watch, this series.

Harsh, Art....very harsh.
Love this show honestly just as I love all period shows of this type. It's severely underrated honestly and that's down to the hate Terrence Winter gets.

Re: Boardwalk Empire
I've watched about half a dozen first season episodes.
This show hasn't been built from a great vision. It's been built out of a need to get something about gangsters on the telly after The Sopranos. So they've thrown gangsters, tits, guns, tits and some violence into the mixer, produced it to look awesome and put it on our screens. But there's no substance. It's hollow inside.

Re: Boardwalk Empire
I won't disagree with that, but that was what the Roaring 20s were all about. Grandiose decadence and debauchery couple with savage and rampant violence. This show is as authentic for that period as we're likely to see for some time. That's why I rate it.

Re: Boardwalk Empire
The show can be dull with great moments.
- Spoiler:
- Killing off Jimmy was a great scene but he was my favourite and had the best story line. Even though i'll keep watching the show it won't be the same without Jimmy

Guess I'm not understanding what makes this show so boring. I think it's quite fascinating how these characters interact with each other.

The adulterer with two toddlers who knowingly married a gangster is the eurghh..."voice" of morality ?
Hopefully, she runs off into the sunset with the other Irish bloke before the season ends. They kill off Jimmy but they allow this PoS to take up valuable minutes from far more intriguing characters?

Re: Boardwalk Empire
I thought Margaret had dug her own grave at the end of last season, but so far the story is like she didn't do anything serious. Wtf HBO?
What a joke.

Re: Boardwalk Empire
- Spoiler:
- Nucky knows about her and Sleater. His concussion prevented him from properly expressing it though. So yeah I don't think either of them will be getting away from him.
He's got larger problems though since his "friends" have abandoned him against Rosetti. The only one I think will back him up is Torrio/Capone, since they didn't show up.

Re: Boardwalk Empire
Kill Jimmy and give more screen time in a gangster series to deal with Abortions and helping pregnant women deal with an unborn child, wtf?
It would have been better if they "Killed" Jimmy but in reality he came back after a season or two but even though the scene of his death kicked ass it's unlikely he's coming back without them introducing a "Walking dead" angle

Re: Boardwalk Empire
This episode had the feeling of the calm breaking before the storm.
- Spoiler:
- My theory on Owen's death is that Nucky knew about the affair and sent Owen basically on a suicide mission, knowing he would never get close enough to kill Joe Masseria, a tried and true way of getting rid of someone he's betrayed you as well as sending a message to your enemy. The reaction of his wife basically confirmed what he already knew so it will a bit interesting to see how he deals with that.
Gyp Rosetti is a certified sociopath, I think this is all, but confirmed. GOAT character though .....just gets crazier and crazier. I think he will eventually make a move on Masseria though in real life, it was Lucky Luciano who made the move to take him out.
Richard Harrow has been one of the best characters on the show since he first appeared and he's now becoming increasingly important without really even knowing it. Nucky's going to approach him for help sooner or later and being that he's not getting on well with Gillian due to his newfound relationship, this will make it easier.
Still not happy with how marginalized Chalky White has become in this show. He was a big time player in AC in real life and that should've reflected more on the show.
Van Alden's in deep shit now though. I think his arc is very underrated. He's basically a wild card in the whole setup of the show and with him throwing in with Capone, anything can happen to him at this point, but I don't think he'll die.

Re: Boardwalk Empire
- Spoiler:
- Tonino I can see him turning on Gyp now. What an episode, the promo for next ep looks insane and Chalky seems to be getting some focus. I hope he eventually gets to open that club, needs to become a focal character IMO.

Re: Boardwalk Empire
Haven't watched the latest episode yet, will do so tonight.. My thoughts on the show are that it's good, but not as great as some people make it out to be.. I rarely, if ever, can't wait until the next episode like I do for shows like Dexter and The Wire..
I also hate Margaret though, I sometimes just fast forward her story lines lol
