Pelé, 17 years old, WC winner, scoring on the final and being our best player, or at least top 3. Then he went on to win it again '62, although injured for most of the WC, and then won the Libertadores twice in a row, and the Intercontinental Cup twice in a row, beating AC Milan (then CL winner) in a three-legged match, and Benfica (also CL winners) on a two-legged match. Not to mention all the national titles he won with Santos, in a Brazil which didn't sell all their best players to Europe then, and which many, including Guardiola, consider it one of the best club sides ever. Messi s doing pretty awesome, but the no WC thing and the inability to carry Argentina on his as of now, make the difference for me.
