Douglas From Twente

We want him for January ( obviously alot depends on how far Ashley will go as with every transfer)

But alot of people i here speak glowingly about him and i should be delighted....

I watched a Roda vs Fc Twente game at Roda's stadium a couple years ago.I didn't know any of the players before hand but he really stuck out.As nick said he's a big stopper,amazing in the air.

Would be a great signing for Newcastle IMO.

The 6’4″ no-nonsense Brazilian center-back would be an excellent buy for Newcastle, and if he arrives it would be between Coloccini, Steven Taylor, Mike Williamson and Douglas to fight it out for the two center-back starting positions on Tyneside.

And if any three of them are injured or cannot play for some other reason James Perch could come in and get the job done alongside one of those four top defenders.

There was news in the Dutch press on Monday, specifically the Dutch football magazine Voetbal International, that Douglas is bound for Tyneside this summer.

And it wouldn’t surprise us too much if some deals have already been done by Newcastle, and just not yet announced.

We are continually linked with Dutch left-back Erik Pieters and Douglas, and also the 22 year -old French midfield player Romain Amalfitano of Stade Reims, who probably has already signed a pre-contract deal, and he becomes a free agent at the end of June.

In fact we have translated the Voetbal International report of Monday regarding Douglas coming to Newcastle:

“It is likely that Douglas Franco Teixeira continues his career at Newcastle United. The number six of the Premier League last winter was already in the market for the 24-year-old center defender of FC Twente and now has again expressed his interest.”

“Newcastle is prepared five million euros for Douglas to pay. The player himself is happy in England to continue his career, but wants to make the move until late August.”

“Then to play the Dutchman naturalized Brazilian five seasons in the Dutch professional football, and is entitled to play for Orange. “

In today’s conversion rates €5M is around £4.13M and we don’t think it would be too much of a problem him arriving in August, although he will miss the summer tour and take longer to get into the Newcastle way of doing things.

Douglas took the decision recently to seek Dutch citizenship so he could play for Holland, and he gave up the chance to play for Brazil, because at the time he said the Dutch Eredivisie didn’t get the publicity or exposure that would be needed to get him selected by Brazil.

By our reckoning Douglas’ contract comes to an end in June, but since he’s been at the club since 2007, when he joined from Joinville, and he is still only 24, Newcastle will need to pay some compensation to FC Twente.

This is Douglas’ web-site and he’s played a total of around 194 times for FC Twente with 13 goals, since joining them from Brazilian club Joinville.

This right-footed player would be an excellent buy for Newcastle.
