Have Barca revolutionised football tactically?
The way they have 4 defenders at one point then depending on how the oppositions attackers are behaving they change the amount of defenders. The DM can act as a CB and as a DM depending on the situation.
The way they have a lot of freedom to do whatever they want on the pitch. Like attackers shifting around, making runs, pressing, the whole lot of it, seems very fascinating and glamorous.
Yet all the other top teams pretty much play one dimensional football with a basic formation.

Is that even revolutionary? Didn't Ajax do the same thing with Total Football?

Re: Have Barca revolutionised football tactically?
Total football cant really be called revolutionary tactic, you should go deeper to the past Mt.

Re: Have Barca revolutionised football tactically?
Tactics themselves aren't revolutionary.
But their ability to master them and exchange tactics with such a fluidity (and how they institutionalized it through their youth ranks) is probably unparalleled by any other side.

Nope. Guardiola has revolutionised football tactically. Rikjaard's barca were fairly "normal" compared to Guardiola's crazy sh*t. Rikjaard played possession football but Guardiola has taken this to another level:
The pressing
The false 9 system
The defensive possession
players interchanging positions (midfielders playing as forwards, DM's playing as CB, RB's playing as mids)
then the 3-4-3 with mid-game tactical adjustments
It's truly orgasmic football.
Re: Have Barca revolutionised football tactically?
Whats impressive is how they mid game can change their tactics completely and this is where busquets deserves a lot of credit for playing both mid fielder and centre back

Guardiola's greatest contribution is to bring back the midfielder to the forefront. He plays midfielders as defenders, midfielders as forwards, midfielders everywhere, and especially bringing the role of the CM back to the core of the team.
