Yes, given that the investigation is all centered around events and deals cut well before the 2018 and 2022 WC decisions, along with individuals and companies operating mostly in the CONCACAF and CONMEBOL regions, as has previously been mentioned.

Re: FIFA Investigation and Elections Thread
He means the investigation started well before (meaning years) the decision to award the WCs to Russia and Qatar. So it had nothing to do with those.
The reason this triggered in the US is that soccer is becoming more and more popular and the sport is now relevant and significant. Given its growing power (you have Magic Johnson that now owns a team in LA too), it hit the radar of the authorities and the FBI.
You have to hit a critical mass threshold for the US to commit resources and soccer finally has. It's a shame for FIFA though Once resources like this are committed, these agencies don't stop until the problem is eradicated.
There is corruption in the US too obviously... but the line is set where the integrity of a sport comes into question. Once that happens, the authority overseeing the sport better be careful. The NCAA is facing similar issues and the FBI has been investigating them for several years too... i expect the hammer to come down on them at some point as well.

There's a difference between investigating and actually getting the go to follow through and apprehend high level officials.
Pretty sure the FBI is investigating all sorts of stuff. What is prioritized, expedited and how it is timed is not independent of political calculations.

FIFA scandal stretches to Traffic, agency involved in Barça's Douglas signing
Brazilian agency Traffic, who were involved in Barcelona's signings of Henrique, Keirrison and Douglas, is under suspicion for bribing FIFA officials.
The multinational marketing company, which has subsidaries such as the football agency Traffic Sport International, has been caught up in the investiagtion which saw several FIFA officials arrested on Wednesday morning.
Traffic's owner and founder, Jose Hawilla, is one of the men who is suggested to have paid the FIFA officials in order to win contracts.
The Brazilian subsidary of traffic is an old acquaintace of FA Barcelona, with several players, including Douglas last summer, being signed through them. However, the signings have always been linked with poor performances.
According to sources close to the investigation, Hawilla is accused of paying officials in order to gain sponsorship deals and the television rights to various tournaments in the CONCACAF region.

Good. Glad they are gonna crack down on them even if it's a stain on our club. The more these corrupt animals get caught the more it will help clean our board up in the future (and stop Douglas type players from joining us)

US don't announce an investigation publicly, like they did years ago, without there being a pot of gold at the end. That's just not how things work with these agencies. If they're just fishing, they don't announce anything. If they announce it, they're warning you that you better get your act together or they're going to hammer you. It's a warning. If nothing changes, they come down.
Besides, there is no appetite or resources at the FBI to take on anything other than a sure thing after 9/!!. Unless it's regarding terrorism, they only go after a sure thing and/or very high profile. The mid level or lower level crimes are left to local authorities even if the FBI could get involved if it wanted to as a result.

Re: FIFA Investigation and Elections Thread
In fact, i bet you this whole thing came on when they were investigating illicit funds with the intent of seeing whether it was being used for terrorism OR they were looking to nail people for tax evasion. They stumbled into something that turned out to be a FIFA scam and they went with it.

People think FIFA will be less corrupt without Blatter
The naivete is unreal. Platini and his cronies are no f**king better. Platini voted for Qatar ffs
It wouldn't surprise me if we eventually ended up learning that Blatter is actaully the least corrupt football official, that's how bad the guys in charge of the game are

Just need Sepp Blatter to drop the false pretences now and openly transition in to his new persona Darth Blatter, then he can begin purging the FBI scum.

Yep, where there's power there's going to be people able & willing to abuse it. Sure you can cut the head off every now & then but there's a dozen people in line who would just pick up where the last one left off

I don't think is unhappy about this. Blatter was very anti-UEFA because his support was from the third world countries he gave most of the money to.

UEFA is relatively clean. There are very powerful FAs that will jump on any false step by UEFA.

I agree.
The main outcome of this investigation shouldn't be a bunch of people going to jail, it should be an organizational change at FIFA to put them under some supervision and in general make it more difficult to go down the corruption road for the people working there.
If FIFA itself doesn't change, there's going to be more corruption with new people - and this time they're going to be more careful about it.
The election is going ahead today, hopefully Prince Ali wins, because Blatter isn't going to bring about that change (not that I know anything about this Prince Ali, whether he's clean or not).

I thought those were total work deaths in Qatar, not WC exclusive work deaths in Qatar?
Still terrible and I'm sure the number will vastly exceed that of any other WC

UEFA? Clean? The same UEFA whose head voted for Qatar? Where the German FA is accused of buying off the Oceania votes for the 2006 WC? No, they aren't clean in the slightest. No part of football is clean, it's corrupt to the core and getting rid of Blatter won't change that.
If you want to reduce corruption you need to get rid of EVERYONE and start over from scratch, but this will never happen, so instead we will have the same shit going on, the only difference being corrupt officials will be more clever about it and won't pass their money through US banks ever again.
