Re: Ryan Bertrand
Ryan Bertrand sets stage for permanent transfer to Southampton with dig at 'dishonest' Chelsea:
Chelsea fullback Ryan Bertrand says he did not appreciate being told different things by different people at the club concerning his long-term future at the Blues and would have preferred honesty from the start

“The situation became clear to me before I went on loan to Aston Villa (last season). I was getting those 15, 20, 25, 30-plus games a season, until I hit a stumbling block.”
“That’s when the alarm bells rang. Before that, I had a chance to move from the club, but I was advised that I didn’t need to do that.”
“It all unravelled in front of my eyes, and certain things didn’t make sense in terms of what certain people had said to me. All I ask for is honesty, and I didn’t get that.”
“I wanted to be in a situation where the club is looking for the same things. In a way, me as a person and Southampton as a football club are quite similar. We’re both striving to do great things.”

Ryan Bertrand hints at permanent Saints move next summer:
Chelsea left-back Ryan Bertrand, farmed out to St Mary's for the season, sees “no reason” why he shouldn't join the club full-time after a “great experience” so far

"I think it is one of those things where I've got to wait and see."
"But for me, there's no reason why not, to be honest. It has been a great experience for me so far."
"There is a good base to the club, we are pulling in the right direction and have fantastic players, manager and coaching staff."

Re: Ryan Bertrand
He'd have made a good back-up but he's not content with that role and only rightly.

Yeah, He'd have saved us from buying Luis if he wanted to stay.

Chelsea full-back Ryan Bertrand set to sign for Southampton permanently next year:
The 25-year-old is currently on loan at St Mary's but is set to make the switch permanent either in January or after the end of the season

Re: Ryan Bertrand
Dumb move. His been one of the best leftbacks in the league this season and Ivan and Luis are getting younger. Plus his English.

Re: Ryan Bertrand
Baines
But seriously, why do they need to be English?
Are you say we should have kept Bertrand because he is English?

With Cahill finally set to become a squad player and Terry not getting any younger it would mean we have one of the smallest squads in the league.

Re: Ryan Bertrand
And? He wouldn't play, and by the time we need to update the fullbacks, there may be someone younger and better (potentially English, too) around for us to purchase.

Why else is Mikel in the squad?

Re: Ryan Bertrand
Because Mikel is happy with his role and is actually a decent squad player.
Bertrand wanted out because we were not giving him anything more than a bench role. He wasn't good enough for our starting XI and he didn't want to sit on the bench, so he left.
