I think it has been settled. The better LB is Marcelo.

However, Coentrao is adapting alot to his new midfield role. Funny, I see him as more solid defender than Khedira actually. (but Khedira the better attacker)

I agree, I don't think Coentrao is a better left back than Marcelo, he's only a little better defensively than Marcelo, but Marcelo is a far better offensive player, and was missed sorely by Ronaldo on the left in the last match.

Marcelo adds so much to the attack of Madrid and is not a bad defender at all, he just needs to work on his positioning and he could soon be the best left back in the world.

Actually, i really want to see Marcelo at RB, Ramos instead of Carvalho at CB and Coentrao at LB. Achieves a few things:
- Marcelo likes to end up going to the center anyhow, so who cares if he starts right or left. He's not into overlapping the traditional way anyhow. It also helps our right side.
- Ramos can play a position where he will be WC.
- Coentrao plays a position where is WC.
- We have a true overlapping fullback on the left at least.

Once Khedira is ready, i really hope we try this. We can always bring Coentrao into the mid when there's a situation that requires it.

im all for this as well czy.

i think were going to have to wait until sahin and sami are back and fit to see some experimentation like this.

coentrao is such a natural as a LB its a shame marcelo has already cemented his spot there, but i do dream of seeing marcelo cutting inside from the right and having some shots with his left.

I actually didn't think about putting marcelo at rb but it would certainly make sense considering he cuts in anyway, it could only benefit him attack wise.

I agree with all your points, very good post.

Blondie was great last night, playing in his natural position, he showed a bit of why he is rated so highly in that position.

The guy has played his entire life on the left, I doubt that he will automatically feel comfortable on the right.

Ceontrao is a top 5 LB... easily. Just doesn't bring the offense that Marcelo does. I think this one is going to become a rotation too lol. Sahin will rotate too.

Rotations everywhere except for Casillas, Ramos, Pepe and CR7.

TBH I think even Ramos and Pepe will be rotated a bit if Mou is smart....

Don't think Marcelo will rotate, if so, very, very little. I think Coentrao will rotate in the midfield and sometimes LB instead.

He was very much missed and it's not the first time we've missed him...

You had Lass, Coentrao and Higuain in the game instead of Khedira, Marcelo and Benzema. Khedira is 100x better at creating from the midfield with his movement than Lass. In fact, Lass has no idea. I won't discuss the other peeps lol.

But again, i think our overall performance was similar. We just didn't create enough chances. CR7 has been off and Ozil needs to regain form. Di Maria and Alonso couldn't make enough plays by themselves.

With 10-15 mins left in the game and we were playing to hold the result then... every Madrid player was defending at that point. Our attacks were more about keeping ball possession than trying anything aggressive towards goal, unless it was an obvious opportunity.

Give credits to La Real for defending so well, and never giving up.

As for us, whenever you change some of the players usually facilitating the game for us, the performances are likely to deep. Last night it was marcelo, because even though Coentrao had a great game, he brings a different dynamic to the offense, one that everyone has to get used to.

Ronaldo was painfully bad. Ozil was unanimous. And more importantly, we have been playing a game every 3 days for the past 3 weeks or so.

Fatigue piles up, specially when the group doesnt change much.

@Zealous, subbing Higuain was a bit dumb imo, Benzema did not need to play. A player like Callejon or Altintop would have been a lot more effective.

Subbing in Benzema isn't a bad thing, he does bring something different to the table, but I agree that Callejon should have gotten some minutes, he could have offered a great way to hold on to the ball and gain free kicks.

Yeah, that's was my point. The objective late was to keep the result, there is 0 point in subbing the CF to me. Add midfielders that will help in defense and help go forward.
