Interesting that Mou is looking at Coentrao to compete with Khedira for the defensive midfield spot.

Never thought of that. But he could easily do it. I think it's because Lass is leaving. It gives us a very viable alternative.

I knew Mourinho doesn't want to replace Carvalho yet.

This means we could play

Marcelo - Carvalho - Pepe - Ramos
Sahin - Coentrao - Xabi
Özil - Benzema/Ronaldo - Di Maria/Ronaldo

i know it is la, but they are already into their season whilst we just had our first game, and coentro i feel had an excellent outing. he is going to be reall asset for rm. Once again a benfica player proves so many doubters wrong. (i told you about di maria, and i was right. Now i told you abt coentrao and it looks like i am going to be right agn)

How well did coentrao play in the game vs LA galaxy and what position did he play? I read somewhere he was man of the match.

He was great, ran like hell all game long, and made great crosses and 1 assist if i remember correct

hey did you guys like how he played? i was in the game and he did wonderfully, we all got up when he did that thing in the corner, and he scored an assist and was named MAN OF THE MATCH by the stadium.

good intro to a diverse player, he was in the left right flanks and also did somethings in the midfield.

Is his nickname really Figo de wherever? I didnt really like Figo, so Im sure there must be another, more conventional name for Coentrao. If there isnt, Im sure Mou will make one up, or Marca will invent one. Rolling Eyes

Coentrao was impressive againts LA Galaxy, but I think most of his best moves came when he's making a run forward to receive the ball like before he made a cross to benz's goal, not when he's bossing the midfield. I'm sure he will make it playing as winger/LB, but not that sure about him in the midfield..yet. Smile

did you guys research why he was named like that?

it's the neighborhood he is from, when he was a kid, he got that nickname because he was one of the most promising young winger in portugal.

it's a small fisherman village, and i think it speaks of his origin, and there is modesty attached to his name, i like it, it's sober and simple.

calling him real madrid swiss army knife is tasteless, it doest relate to who he is as a person.

I know all about it, but I dont like the nickname and he shouldnt be compared with Figo. Im sure he will pick up one in Spain eventually, nobody has called him Figo das Caxinas since his move to Madrid.
