The Liverpool injury Thread
was thinking of opening it when the season starts,
but i just saw a news that seems to have passed a little quietly:
Pepe Reina undergoes surgery on a double hernia
http://www.goal.com/en/news/9/england/2011/06/13/2530526/liverpools-pepe-reina-undergoes-surgery
"...is expected to return with the rest of the squad for pre-season training next month."
well if they say so.
hope they wont be some sort of delay that makes him miss a part of pre-season, but there is no reason for that i guess.

It was a successful surgery. Shouldn't keep him out too long hopefully.

Re: The Liverpool injury Thread
That explains the interest in a new, better back-up keeper. Playing with a double hernia is pretty crazy.
The story is on the front page of the LFC.tv website as well... not sure we were trying to have it pass by quietly.

Richard Conway (Sky) today on his twitter:
hopefully he didnt party too hard with Rooney in his holidays, and he will be ready too when pre-season begins (in less than a month now)

BREAKING: Harrison withdrew from FA arbitration today. Stems from Andy Carroll leaving Harrison for rival agent Mark Curtis in 2009.

Andy Carroll attended Mon, Tues and today at FA hearing in Manchester. Limping badly and missed Weds to see doctor.

To Liverpool fans worried about Carroll. He was walking fine but with definite limp. Didn't look too serious though.

Kenny on Gerrard & Reina,
both are missing pre-season and should be fit for the start of the season:
http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/latest-news/boss-on-stevie-and-pepe-latest
both are missing pre-season and should be fit for the start of the season:
Steven is injured at the moment and that's why he's not here with us. He has made a fantastic recovery from his operation towards the end of last season.
He just needs to get the final couple of niggles out of the way and then he will be fit for the start of the season against Sunderland.
The same situation applies to Pepe - he had a double hernia operation in June. He isn't fit and so had to stay at home. He should be ready for the start of the season.

Gerrard has started pre season training, No news on Reina.
Glen Johnson, Martin Skrtel and Fabio Aurelio also missed the tour through injury.

Re: The Liverpool injury Thread
Reds say Gerrard is on course
Liverpool have moved to quell reports that Steven Gerrard could be set to miss up to the first two months of the season, after claims that his groin injury is worse than first thought.
Liverpool say Steven Gerrard is progressing as expected
A Sunday newspaper had written that the club were braced for the fact they will have to start the new Premier League campaign without their skipper after complications arose in the recovery from his current injury.
Such a layoff would also force him to miss England's international friendly with Netherlands on August 10 and struggle to be fit for the Euro 2012 qualifier with Wales on September 6, but the Reds are adamant the midfielder has not suffered any sort of setback.
"Steven Gerrard's rehabilitation is progressing as planned," the club told ESPNsoccernet.
Gerrard, 31, is not with the club on their current tour of Asia as he continues his recovery on Merseyside.

Re: The Liverpool injury Thread
Liverpool FC this afternoon issued the following statement:
Steven Gerrard today began a course of antibiotic treatment for an infection related to an ongoing groin problem.
He is expected to remain in hospital for several days while the precautionary procedure is completed.
The player will then return to Melwood to continue his rehabilitation programme and is expected to be available for selection in September.

Re: The Liverpool injury Thread
Gerrard out till September, won't gain full fitness until, what, beginning of October? Plus he was expected to be back much earlier when he had his surgery in the spring, I just hope this time the September target will actually be met and not pushed forward again.

Really? That he will be fit our 3rd match of our season is a really worrying statement.
U should stop taking twitter ITKs seriously tbh.

It has frak all to do with twitter tbh...I don't even follow any ITKs there.
I mean, just read the statement...it's just so weird.
If you really think he'll be fit for September, you are deluded. He hasn't kicked a ball in 5 months, his return has been delayed 3 times, and now he'll spend SEVERAL DAYS at hospital to get rid of an INFECTION following the operation which took place 5 months ago. Meaning there has been a new operation, because you don't get infections after 5 months...so the initial OP hasn't been successful of course. We have been lied to about his recovery IMO...but I hope he takes all the time in the world to get fit...but I don't think he'll ever be able to play let's say more than 20-25 games a season, unless he significantly alters his playing style.
Will be glad to be proven right. Stevie in Hospital for several days due to infection as a precautionary act. Just doesn't make sense
I hope we are lucky enough to have him back for October when we play Everton and United.

Re: The Liverpool injury Thread
Perhaps our CM purchases make sense all of a sudden.
In my opinion, I don't think we will see the same Gerrard again in terms of fitness. That groin injury has been a bother for a while now. Unless it is permanently sorted, I expect things to change.
