Re: Liverpool's international watch thread.
So, Cleverly is crocked and the Hodge calls up... Sterling?
That's hardly a like-for-like swap. It's also somewhat odd as Sterling hasn't exactly been in great form for club, much less country.
Why not call up Hendo, who has been in fine form for the club, is now too old to contribute to the U21s, and who would be a like-for-like *cough* improvement *cough* swap with Cleverly?
Just one more example of Woy's decision making process. I suppose it's not a bad thing for LFC that Hendo's not playing two extra matches, but you have to believe it would only be good for the lad's confidence and a fair reward for his play over the last 6 months.

Re: Liverpool's international watch thread.
No-one (or close enough) outside of LFC rates Henderson particularly highly... certainly not as an international. Hell, many Liverpool fans still aren't keen on him. He's got the Lucas syndrome all over again while (perhaps ironically) Lucas is now facing something of the opposite.

Re: Liverpool's international watch thread.
Saw Sakho play the second half yesterday for France NT... my observations:
- You can tell he's adapting to Liverpool d style because he was playing far too low and letting the players come to him as opposed to meeting them high. Good for liverpool... not so much for France. He was throwing the alignment off because of it.
- Good in duels and in the air. Very good in fact.
- His ball skill are either rusty or he's taken a step back there. He was taking too long on the ball... something he had fixed at PSG. Trying to play too safe as opposed to releasing it.
It's interesting because, other than the Arsenal players, I've always noticed a cultural issue with defenders that play in EPL compared to the ones that play in other leagues. They get reactive as opposed to staying aggressive.

Re: Liverpool's international watch thread.
Agger, Skrtel, Gerrard, and Sturridge all finished their 2 matches without any injuries. Party time mofos
Agger scored a brace today in Denmarks 6-0 over Malta. Both from the penalty spot. He has scored every penalty he has ever taken (New Balotelli ) I guess we know who the vice pen taker should be after Stevie.
Captain Fantastic also scored today. The winning goal that sent England to Brazil. Made up for him.

Re: Liverpool's international watch thread.
Sakho and Mignolet were both on the bench today and did not play. Sterling also did not feature. And Lucas was playing in the Brazil friendly. And no injuries here either. Good times.

Suarez scored a pen against Argentina and assisted the third for Cavani.
The two Argie goals were scored by none other than our former hero Maxi.

Re: Liverpool's international watch thread.
So our entire first team either played in the two internationals or are injured (previously). Just hope they have enough fuel to carry us now. Gosh, the squad does looks thin.

Suarez might miss some matches in November right?

Re: Liverpool's international watch thread.
He will be traveling a lot but the matches will still be during the international break.
We play Fulham on Nov 9th, then he travels to Jordan to play with Uruguay on the 13th. After he travels all the way to Uruguay with the NT to play the return leg on the 20th. And we have the Derby against Everton on the 23th.
It will be tough, hopefully he stays fit through all that.

Re: Liverpool's international watch thread.
Also he'll probably only arrive to Merseyside on the 22nd so there is a chance Rodgers gives him a rest. Hopefully he'll be ready though, huge match that.

Re: Liverpool's international watch thread.
16 Liverpool players will be involved in the international matches. Four; Suarez (Uruguay), Sakho (France), Moses (Nigeria) & Tour (CdI) will be involved in the WC play-off. Three; Raheem, Ibe (both England) & Ilori (Portugal) are with Youth NT while the rest: Agger (Denmark), Skrtel (Slovakia), Mignolet (Belgium), Allen (Wales), Lucas (Brazil) and the quartet of Gerrard, Henderson, Johnson & Sturridge (all England) are on for friendlies.
Nine of these players are first-team regulars. Five others are key back-up players and only Ibe & Ilori are fringe players.
Hoping for a injury & fatigue free return of our players.

Re: Liverpool's international watch thread.
Suarez playing right now. Uruguay 2-0 up at half time away from home. Looks like they are as good as qualified. Good for Luisito

4-0 Uruguay
Suarez taken off early without scoring. He looked tired, no injury though

Re: Liverpool's international watch thread.
Internationals are so boring.
Fair enough in Suarez' case where it's a WCQ, but friendlies? Really? Hopefully our players are rested.

Re: Liverpool's international watch thread.
We would of wanted him to play the first, rather than the second tbh.
We have Everton like 3-4 days after the second game.

Re: Liverpool's international watch thread.
So Sturridge is going to start in the friendly against Germany despite a persistent injury... expect him to miss the Derby.

Re: Liverpool's international watch thread.
Is Sturridge okay?
John W Henry is giving Suarez a private jet trip back to England so he can get back in time for the training before the Everton game.

Re: Liverpool's international watch thread.
Liverpool has to allow Sakho to play in a natural CB role where he can be aggressive.... i mean the guy is a beast in duels and completely control the air. I don't hink any CB at Liverpool could give the performance Sakho did last night for France Nt. Set the tone early, kept it up and intimidated everyone. Don't expect him to score goals though That was his Thuram moment..
