Defensive Coach

A mixture of poor decision making up front, defensive frailty and bad luck cost us dearly on Saturday but i would like to ask peoples opinions on Arsenal bringing in a defensive coach??

Obvisously on two of the goals Santos was on a completley different defensive line to the rest of the defenders but as a whole the back four all seem to be playing different games.

Koscielny is all over the place chasing balls that he shouldnt be going for and being caught out of postion constantly. Mertesacker is an old school defender, wont get caught out of position but is left looking like a lame duck when Koscielny goes missing.

Surely we need someone in that back room staff that can have a plan of action as to HOW we want to defend in a game?? All of the back four need to be playing from the same hymn sheet not just going off playing to their own strengths. Even when indiviual defenders have had good games like Sagna the back four has still looked week.

You can always hear Pat Rice shouting "OUT OUT OUT" on the touchline but rarely do i see the back four all move out together. Surely a team as great as ours should know the basics of defending??

Take into account Mertesacker and Santos have been thrown into the deep end. They're not going to gel with the squad instantly.

The errors werent made on an individual basis. It was the collective defending which cost us.

There was no communication for the offside trap. No communication for who is to cover for each other.

We need time to gel, but i agree we need a modern defensive coach.

More than just a defensive coach, we need a coach that teaches the team defending that compliments possession football. Half of possession football is defending well and recycling the ball from back to front.
