Fernabache Kicked out of the Champions League

Fenerbahce have been prevented from competing in the Champions League this season due to the match-fixing investigation that has enveloped Turkish football.
The draw for the group stages takes place on Thursday evening and Fenerbahce were due to be one of the teams picked from pot three during the ceremony.
However, the Turkish Football Federation has now confirmed via a statement on its official website that Fener have been told they cannot compete in the competition.
Fenerbahce were crowned Turkish champions in 2010-11 and although last season's results stand at present, their chairman Aziz Yildirim is one of over 30 people who have been jailed pending trial following allegations of manipulation in 19 matches.
The start to the Turkish season has already been put back by a month until September 9 so the Federation can fully investigate the allegations.
UEFA is yet to make a statement concerning how Fenerbahce will be replaced in Thursday's draw.

It'll either be Arsenal (if they get kicked out tonight) or Trabonzpor (sp) who were runners up in Turkey last season.

Just hearing Liverpool could be in the Champions League as a result of Fenerbahce being expelled. When a team is expelled UEFA may give the place to the team with the highest co-efficient not currently in Europe. However - no nation can have more than four teams in the Champions League so all may rest on Arsenal losing?

The other turk team are also involved in the scandal so cant replace them, it would be liverpool.

It was all our master plan. Lose that game at home to Spurs, and send them to EL anticipating Turkish Scandal, so we can sneak through. :coffee:

I am reading a lot of stuff about us replacing Fener too, but it'd be very strange and weird....will be interesting to see how it pans out Laughing

Uefa will probably send Spurs to CL, and give us their EL...hope we refuse it and forfeit if they come up with such idea

Didn't England get an extra spot when Liverpool won CL while they failed to qualify for the tourney? So they could try to defend their crown.

That's what he says anyway. I've seen so many scenarios on twitter that I'm not really sure what's happening. We will find out at 7.30 as UEFA have just said they will clarify the situation with Fenerbache going out.

I am reading different scenarios as well, but I am sure I read no country can have more than 4 participants from now on under any circumstances.

So if Arsenal advances tonight, and the scnario is the one I posted...then I guess it'll be the 2nd best coeff team not in Europe.

We are currently 8th behind United, Barca, Chelsea, Bayern, Arsenal, Real, Porto, Inter

That's not exactly true.

There have been periods when there have been four or more teams from one nation in the Champions League.

The 2005/06 Champions league, the top four were United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Everton.
As Liverpool won the season before, they were put into the first qualifying round and subsequently qualified for the group stages.

Everton however, were knocked out during the third qualifying round.

If no nation can have more than the alloted number of teams in the Champions League regardless of the circumstances, then the team that replaces Fernerbache surely has to be one of the teams that are in the final qualifying round.

If we win, then Liverpool can't get in since there'd be four English teams. The next team on the list not in Europe would be Werder Bremen, who are 14th, but Germany already have their three teams in Europe. And it'll keep going on like that.

There's no other way to avoid that rule. Plus, I think it'd make more sense since these teams have already qualified through their league placing. Putting in a team that finished outside the Champions League spots last season just wouldn't seem right.

I really don't think it can be us, Tottenham would go ballistic if we got into the CL before them when they finished last season above us.
