Lopetequi is quite comfortable with Thiago as backup to Busquets. He played there last two games!

It's not controversial because Cesc has regressed significantly from what he used to be as a player. He is one of those players who peaked early and is now completely meh

The big concern is the striker. I cannot even say for sure who best to play there. Miss David Villa so much. France in 1998 won the world cup without a top striker. So it's not like it can't be done but then goals will have to come from everywhere including unexpected sources.

I don't understand why Iago Aspas doesn't start. He was instrumental against Argentina, and again, he changed the game as a substitute. I wonder how many times he has to be decisive as a substitute, in order to earn himself a starting spot. Clearly, the team doesn't quite tick without him.

Lol Nick, he didn’t take him to WC. He took him and 3 others to pre tournament practices to increase practice roster, largely because 3 Madridistas were given some time off after CL final. All 4 of the kids had played for Lopetegui before on U21 team,knew his tactics and training.

If he does have a bias towards Madrid, that bodes well for him eventually coming to Madrid!

Costa should not be starting, at least every game. He looks like a square peg in a round hole out there. Aspas is a much better player for Spain.

That is really the big question. Both Costa and Rodrigo are stronger and better at holding up the ball, but it has been Aspas the only one consistently scoring. However most of his goals have been as a second striker.

The choice is Aspas over Rodrigo or Costa or do they play 2 strikers at the expense of Iniesta, Silva or Isco.

Hierro isn't a a top coach. This is the Spanish FA's fault. People forget that Van Gaal did the same with Man U and he took his country to the 3rd place.
