Remember his brain farts against Spurs the ONLY match he got mildly pressed? Where Liverpool are winning with Dejan freaking Lovren, people attribute City losing to Laporte being injured Laughing

If Van Dijk is a Lamborghini Aventador, Laporte is the 10 year old Fiat Punto your cousin bought at a shady pawnbroker.

Didnt he also play both league games against them last season and kept a clean sheet in both? I mean sure you may not rate him highly but hes better then what City have now in the back.

Laporte like some key figures or managers on GL is one of the players who is disliked without merit and this usually does happen when a sudden hype spectrum brings attention to many viewers and I get what it does but there is no coincidence how City are in the back with or without him.

But when you say he kept a clean sheet against them, he is just one man. The defensive set up this team hasn't been much dissimilar to last season however other teams are starting to learn how to hurt them. I would doubt if prime Maldini frankly could have done nothing against that Shelvy strike, let alone Lafarte who has been continually dismissed or overlooked by World Cup winning coach Didier Dechamps, and rightly so in my opinion.

For me there are elite CBs, like Van Dijk, Ramos, Chiellini, Godín, Varane and Piqué, and then the rest like Laportes, De Ligts and Lenglets. To me Laporte is nothing special, just a really good CB. He wouldn't have changed anything today, or last week. City are starting to be found out and teams have learned they best way to play against them, both defending and attacking. And I also believe City are reaching Pepxpiration. I won't be surprised if Guardiola leaves the team at the end of this season if they don't win anything.

PL fans are like someone having been hit on the head and having amnesia as a result. How the hell can you forget EVERY SINGLE TIME how bad shit gets under Mourinho if he stays longer than 18 months?

Dele is revitalized under Mou atm

He's one of Spurs best players since Mou has come in. Looks amazing out there.

The "handling intentional or not cancels a goal" rule used against Tottenham. I cannot believe they made this a rule. How incompetent

That’s usually when him and Kane tend to hit form, though. It was Son who carried them around this time last season.

It's because Mourinho dropped the pretense of Alli being a midfielder and employs him as second striker, no?

he's on the bench though, so he's not injured. Oxlade is so limited ffs, Keita should walk into that midfield with Fabinho out

Exactly look how they are without him. He made them look better and without him they show more vulnerability. Shelvy strike was due to a foul by Ferna who was playing in Laporte position its all hypothetical but no guarantee he'd commit a foul like that. I also don't believe particularly teams have figured them out. As Hans said Pep himself is to blame as he had made some weird and idiotic decision that disrupt his team, playing a past it D. Silva and not playing B. Silva, making one sub at Liverpool etc. I'd also say the loss of Kompany leadership also hurts them.

Dechamps didn't leave him out due to his quality, it was because he threaten to play for Spain if he didn't get a call up when he was at Bilbao which apparently Dechamps didn't like. Nevertheless he was called up in Sept. by him until he got injured.

I'm not saying he's elite CB, he has away to go before getting into that category, but what I'm saying is he's the best defender City have.
