Re: The TV Series Thread - Part 5
only me and Tom watched it, though I dropped it last season, got kinda stale, some good stuff though
you need to watch Justified though if you didn't already, especially since it has some western themes
Ryalan Givens the GOAT.

I gave up on Ray Donovan a season or two ago. Does it pick up again?

I liked the latest season quite a bit though if you're not a fan of Abby, it's going to frustrate you.

Thanks. I might have to pass on it then, especially with all the other shows I have to catch up on.

Yes, Justified is absolutely amazing. Love this show also for introducing me to the genius of Walton Goggins, who plays Boyd
Been thinking about rewatching the show recently. Will get round to it soon

Highly recommend The Shield if you haven't watched it already. Goggins the GOAT.

If you want to see him in a more comedic role, watch Vice Principals. He's amazing in that show.

Re: The TV Series Thread - Part 5
I've seen VP's. He's amazing anywhere, whether it's a comedic or a dramatic role.
Absolute gem, my favourite actor alongside Tom Hardy.
@Firenze I tried to get sucked into The Shield but I didn't enjoy the first few episodes and I dropped it.... Thing is though that at the time I started watching I wasn't aware of Goggins' existence yet, so now I'll probably be more interested and won't drop it a couple episodes in lol
Will start watching tonight.

This show is so great in a dark, f*cked up way. I wasn't always a fan of Danny McBride but in this and Eastbound & Down he's too good.
Speaking of Justified's main cast branching out into comedy, Santa Clarita Diet is even better than VP (which I love). Seeing Olyphant go from the grizzled badass Raylan Givens to a goofy pot-smoking white dad real estate agent shows the range this guy has. He was always hilarious in Justified so you can tell the asshole banter comes just as naturally to him as the long-winded, suave speeches come to Goggins.
tl;dr VP and SCD are Justified spinoffs where Boyd and Raylan go into teaching/real estate instead of crime/crime fighting.

I knew Timothy would be great in a comedic role aswell, I watched all his interviews on Conan and he's just so effortlessly hilarious.
SCD is another show I want to watch but for some reason never manage to get round to it.

Re: The TV Series Thread - Part 5
He's genuinely, no fanboying, one of the best actors I've seen. Period. His diversity is incredible. Can kill any role.
Goggins has a prominent role throughout the entirety of The Shield and arguably gives his best performances there. It's just all around a great show too so definitely try to get into it properly.

Santa Clarita Diet came out of nowhere and blew me away. Timothy and Drew Barrymore are easily one of the best TV couples around right now.

The Good Fight is probably one of the best spinoffs around.....especially if you're anti-Trump.

Re: The TV Series Thread - Part 5
Danny McBride's next comedy on HBO just announced and will star John Goodman as his co-lead.. It's called The Righteous Gemstones. Takes place in the shady world of televangelism.
I immediately looked to see if McBride's long time partner Jody Hill was returning and it looks like that's happening so I'm in. Eastbound & Down as well as Vice Principals were ridiculously good. Bringing in an excellent actor like Goodman to partner up with McBride should make this great. I'm really excited to see who else they bring in as the supporting cast. Both of the previous shows has great ones.

John Goodman (Roseanne) will star as Eli Gemstone, the patriarch of the Gemstone family. The character is described as unbending and a force in the ministry game. He’s known the world over for his aggressive salvation techniques, his worldwide ministries and his award-winning weekly television program. His light is fading, but he takes no guff. He is obeyed, unquestioned.
McBride will portray Jesse Gemstone, the eldest son and heir to the throne. He walks in his father’s shadow while simultaneously blazing his own path. Like Eli, Jesse takes no shit and demands loyalty from those in his circle and surrounds himself by those that will follow him. Jesse fancies himself a maverick in the ministry game, taking what Eli has built and expanding it for a more modern audience.

Re: The TV Series Thread - Part 5
Ok just finished watching Kobra Kai. I wasn't expecting much going in, just to get that 80s nostalgia feeling (not sure how I can feel nostalgia for a decade I didn't live but there it is) and maybe a few good fight scenes. On that score it surpassed my expectations, it took the characters and really made me believe that is how they turned out, and made significant efforts to see them grow throughout the season.
The story kept surprising me too, what I expected to be the season finale happened roughly halfway through the season, and then the story was about the consequences that Miguel's (new LaRusso) appreciation for Karate has for both him, his friends, and everyone around him in both positive and negative ways. By the end the series is definitely not as black and white as the original movie.
I also liked how they brought in the original actors of the first film, made it very believable.
So I readily recommend it.
That being said if you didn't care for the original movie then this is definitely not your cup of tea.
