I just don't think the tool changes anything at all if it's not used on every single big call.

As I see it at this point VAR mainly helps taking away offside goals.
Penalty-wise it's still sketchy. Hopefully it'll improve a lot.

Which is the problem right now, there's a huge gap between the on-field referees and the video referees that needs to be corrected

It's exactly as it was in Serie A this season. No consistency in use which makes its use at all frustrating at times

Although I haven't found much issue with it in the World Cup so far

The non-PK call for Brazil should've been overruled, it was a clear pen. If you don't overrule stuff like that VAR is useless

well, it says he said he had a back problem, so maybe he actually did and they'll send him home as he's not fit? idk, seems weird otherwise

and if he was acting like a diva for w/e reason that's also good, because the chances of him sitting out his big money contract at Milan is high IMO

Milan fans think theyre gonna recoup on this bum lmao

I've been pleasantly surprised by VAR this WC. They're doing a much better job with it than the FA.

It has been a good World Cup so far for me.
The level is overally good, I don't see scrub teams and so it is positive. I am not among those that think that a match must have 6 goals to be rated as interesting.
Football is basically changed much in last 15 years. There are too many matches, and that obliges to have athlets first of all.Athletics has reduced the impact of technique,  and the tacticts complete everything.
Moreover we live in a global football era , I mean the football is followed everywhere ( except Costa Rica probably, considering his coach did not know Hazard ) . And that facilitates the leveling. And the leveling is not downwards for me . I think this is the football in its best expression.

I like this World Cup so far too

I think teams like Germany, Spain, Portugal, Brazil, Argentina all failing to win their first match creates that much more of an intense second and third game of the group stage. It has already basically ensured that there won't be as many meaningless third group games with teams already qualifying.

Spain-Portugal was a GOAT game
Mexico-Germany was an unreal upset
Tunisia holding the three lions later on today, winning 1-1 will be remembered for quite some time

Allow it and temper your first game of group play expectations

Totally digging this WC. But quality football doesn't rank as my first priority in a WC tourno, it's the collective excitement and how very important every game is.

Compared to club football, the WC is only once in four years, loads more people care about it than club football, every game is hugely important and the pressure is on in a totally different way than in your standard club football match. Even a low-key affair like Costa Rica 0 - 1 Serbia becomes somewhat fascinating in those circumstances.

Just finishing first half Belgium game...much like a lot of other games, the big teams have been a bit disappointing so far... while as mentioned above the smaller teams have really done their work and raised their level for these first games, so a lot of close and tight games, absolutely no easy games bar that first one. Especially the smaller teams seem to be giving it their best, like Belgium just now it seems they arent fully ready or just seem surprised and cant raise their game atm.

When u realized so many ppl gamble and bet on the big teams, especially most ppl dont know football or would think the smaller teams would challenge like these, must have been a very good WC for the bookies so far Razz

Reserve judgement until after the pool games... a lot of teams play not to lose in game 1 and end up playing sluggish. When there's pressure to win on one side or the other, which doesn't happen until games 2 and 3, the quality goes.

Shouldn't the blame be on Croatia's coach for picking Kalinic in the first place?

Can't blame the player for listening to his body. I wish more would do it honestly.
