Get Out

9/10... Excellent, pretty weak ending but it had me on the edge and engaged through out the movie. Would recommend for a thriller and to any bored persons out there.

God DAMN was that an incredible achievement ffs. Probably my number one of 2017 films now.

Phantom Thread also great. CMBYN and that are also up there.

Can’t wait for Shape of Water. But I have to wait until Tuesday because I’ve got a date to see that. Ain’t got money to watch it twice.

Dunkirk was decent, Billboards was alright, watching Lady Bird tonight.

I think Shape of Water and Call Me By Your Name look like they have really good quality.

Don't know if I'll bother with the Post, and I haven't seen Get Out but it looks fun. Phantom Thread and Darkest Hour get to that category where I'd like to see them and hope to but they don't excite me that much.

Weak year overall, though. When you look at the past couple years, I don't think it's unreasonable (even with me not having seen a lot of the noms) to expect that La La Land/Moonlight/Arrival/Fury Road/Whiplash/Grand Budapest are all superior to the lot of movies this year. The Oscars fault though since the best movie of the year in Bladerunner 2049 didn't get a nomination for best pic, which is an absolute farce and a travesty

Personally John Wick 2 should win the oscars

Saw an interesting concept. What if Oscars like the World Cup was given every four years?

Best Supporting Actor: JK Simmons (Whiplash)
Best Supporting Actress: Lupita Nyongo (12 Years A Slave)

Arrival is the best film of those nominated 14-17

I would also change the film of Dennis to Arrival, as you'd expect. Otherwise I agree, although 12 Years a Slave was 2013. So I would change supporting actress to, idk, Michelle Williams? Maybe Alicia Vikander although I haven't seen The Danish Girl

I think it has been a great year in film. I haven't done my list yet but from what I can remember I have a lot of 5 out of 5 and 4.5 films to choose my top 10 from.

Lady Bird, CMBYN and I, Tonya are the best of the Oscar nominated films. Florida Project and Get Out are a further level down imo, but still very much very well-done films. I am rooting for Get Out to win best screenplay, surely it was nominated for that?
Outside of that we've had Blade Runner and Baby Driver. That's a lot better than some of the previous years.

And what i say should be taken with a grain of salt, I've seen like two of them, but other years just look a lot better tbh

Just watched Lady Bird.
Not entirely feeling it. Seems good, but nothing breathtaking. Don’t know what made it more special than Edge of Seventeen last year.

I would say Gerwig's deft control over the narrative and storytelling as a whole.
The cinematography was brighter than EoS, and that matched the pace and mood of the film.
The sense and nostalgia regarding the deep-rootedness to ones small town. I could relate to that quite a bit, and all the time while watching the film I could only think, damn there's a lot of girls from my hometown who would crazy relate to this film and the leading character.

So yea I would say just so much better control over the camera and story, and the true-natured feeling that makes it quite somewhat better.

In Bruges (2008)

Loved it. Screenplay was incredible. What I really liked about this film was how unique it was compared to other gangster/hitman type of films. Brilliant dialogues.

That scene between Ken and Harry about harry being a *bleep* and his kids had me in stitches.

There was no meaningless character and the acting was fantastic. Specially by Colin Farrell.

In Bruges is an all-time fave!

Easily Martin McDonagh's best film thus far.

It often felt like a combination of a Tarantino film and a Scorsese film. Not imitation but rather inspired.

This scene was incredible ffs.

Extreme fighting movie in the mold of 'Raid Redemption'. I didnt enjoy it as much as Raid but still one of the best fighting movie in recent years.

I echo with the general sentiment that this year is a weak year for movies. Movies like Dunkirk ,Three Billboards and even Get out would not have made in to the short list in the past years.

Just watched Lady Bird and Call Me By Your Name

Lady Bird 8.1/10 it was a really solid movie, I liked it more than 3 billboards. Funny, charming, Saiorse is amazing, and overall well done. By the way, EG, I would not call Sacramento (500,000 people) a "small town". They definitely tried to give it that feel though, which honestly I thought was just awkward. I would guess the only reason that they placed it in Sacramento instead of Midwest proper is to be able to talk about the divide between the rich and the rest in Sacramento. None of those amazing homes would have been in the Midwest, obviously.

Call Me By Your Name 8.5/10. Sufjan has done it again. I don't care about the rest of it.

Just kidding, but seriously, getting Sufjan to do a couple songs for it and their placement was really well done, and fit the vibe perfectly. Cinematography and the setting was absolutely beautiful, and added a lot to the story. I was slightly uncomfortable with the age difference, but I guess that was on purpose. Armie Hammer and Timothee Chalamet both do absolutely wonderful jobs, and it was a beautiful romance. Deserves its best picture nomination and the hype it has received.

Ralph Fiennes' character in In Bruges is hilarious. Every line he says is so memorable.

The letter he writes, calling his wife an inanimate *bleep* object, and his line on why he should buy an Uzi are my top .
