The talk of the footballing world Mbappe was ineffective as well when he came up against a real defense in the semi final. Ofc not saying United defense is anywhere near that level individually. But collectively our organization at the back is top notch (as is the case with all Mourinho teams). So, I am not surprised a 19 year old kid has struggled in a game like this with the whole world watching. He looked so good against Lyon in the semis btw.

Hope Ajax make CL via play-offs. We will find out more about the lad in the group stages of the competition next season I am sure.

Most posters here have little footballing knowledge & intelligence. This guy is 19 & he has playing for Jong Ajax in the 2nd division, he was never even supposed to start this season!

Next season will be his 1st full fledged one with a pre-season. Dolberg is a pretty decent compete ST & is talented but he is at a very early stage of development, it is impossible to say how he will end up, he can turn out to WC or a mid-table ST.

But you have to give it time & judge him over 2-3 years !

That's fair. Tbh it's not like Rashford impressed much last night, good workrate but nothing else. Dolberg only touched the ball like three times though. Genuinely didn't notice he was playing. You know it's more fun to go with kneejerk reactions though.

Exactly. He's 19, and big things were expected of him in a game where his team was being dominated and he hardly touched the ball. But yeah, GL is the place for knee-jerk reactions and sensationalist claims, for the sake of it

He's both legit and overrated. People kind of seem to think that being overrated always has to mean you're crap. If I call Robben as good as Messi I overrate him. He's still one of this generations best wingers.
Dolberg will become a top player. Just a lot of the stuff I've read about him is way over the top. I read quite often he's our best talent by far or even our best player. He is part of the most talented youngsters in our squad and right now he's a decent player who should (and will) stay in a lower league.

Considering the 'initial hype' came from him scoring 16 league goals in the 16/17 season when he was 18, of course people had been expecting more from him and it sure looks like he has peaked in high school

Of course, contrary to popular belief, peaking early doesn't guarantee that a player will continue to improve at the same rate for the rest of their career. It's always a good sign when a player shows how capable or mature they are, already at a young age, but it doesn't mean anything if the extent of their talent has an average cap. Dolberg is 21. People are free to criticise him all they want, but he's got a long career ahead of him. Anything can happen, still. I don't know when people became so impatient that they lose all hope as soon as a player enters their 20s without looking like an absolute freak of nature.
