Pirlo was definitely the most important Juventus midfielder of the past several seasons. Irreplaceable in his characteristics.

I can't help but agree, he's been a ghost this season. He was given the #10 and was supposed to be the 'guy' on this team but apart from a few glimpses of skill and the Manchester City game, which was his best performance, he hasn't impacted games the way many of us expected him to.

That's always been my criticism of him, he fades in and out of games too much. Yesterday against Inter I don't think he touched the ball for the first 15 minutes. Did nothing of note in the first half, then in the second half went on a run and ate 4 Inter defenders like they weren't there and then grew into the game more and more, and was more involved as Juventus was pressing... of the 3 Juventus midfielders who started in Marchisio, Khedira and Pogba, he was certainly the worst of the 3 but overall, first half was terrible, second half was promising

I was basically asking this same question already last season when Pirlo, Vidal and Tevez were still at Juve. Pogba just didn't look like he did enough in games. Undoubtedly a talented player, but ghosts about too much and doesn't seem to know how to put his ability to use for 90 minutes.

but if the matter to lessen Pogba is " because he's great in Serie A " and then Verratti is great in .... Ligue One ..
or Ligue One 'd be better than Serie A ( the tactical league tbf ) ? Laughing

Pogba doesn't have Tevez to link up with and just very recently got Marchisio and Khedira back. Wanted to do too much to compensate early and got into bad form. With everyone back, he's slowly building up form and should hit stride.by mid November methinks

Overrated??? The guy is 22 years old, please stop!! I don't understand the need to call a young talent overrated.

The other thing is that he is not the same mold as Pirlo I think he is a different player.

No way in hell Pirlo is as great as Zidane and not as great as Xavi either. Yes Pirlo was a midfield general but when he played against Xavi he wasn't able to outplay him in midfield for his team.

Before every gets crazy it is my opinion and I felt the need to share it!!

this is exactly why i don't think he's overrated. it seems a lot of people share your point of view on gl (based on the pogba vs thiago thread), and there are also a lot who like him (mainly juve and french fans, though to be fair to them, i'm not sure they've called him the next *insert legend name here*). based on that i'd say it evens itself out...@ least on gl. the transfer fee is another thing entirely, there's been a hike in prices of players...if martial could go for what he went for, you can bet juve are going to do what they can to make max dollars. as i said i don't think the media nor pundits have hailed him as this guy who you build your team around. if he's not getting ballon d'or top ten nominations (he was ranked 22nd last year) then i'd stray away from the term overrated

just cos a few fans may champion a player like their lives depended on it doesn't mean the player's overrated, it just means one is probably giving too much attention to such fans, their impact actually overshadows reality. and pogba hasn't been championed nearly half as much as some other players i've seen on this forum, where we even use imaginary explanations to crown players e.g. if this team was built on player x he'd average 50 goals in a season, or if player x moves here he'd win ballon d'or, or my personal favorite "assists to assists for goals and player involvement" lol

One is a striker/winger and the other is a CM. The former lot will always go for higher money than the latter. And because of that you cant automatically assume since an attacker went for this much a midfielder will go for a higher amount.

But I also second the notion that he is only overrated in certain circles. only among Juventus and Serie A fans mostly.
Have seen people saying he is already the best player in the world and stuff. Laughing

From that bold statement, I assume he is trying to say Martial costing so much for potential, Juventus is gonna make sure anyone willing to purchase their player would have to apply to IDB for a loan to pay for his services. Nothing to do with position or anything. Just what they perceive as if he can go for this amount, why not an already established star footballer.

there is no 180, i have seen more talented players than pogba barely reach their potential and have shit careers.

I thought he looked good. Very good in fact. A lot of the Pogba from last year is coming back as he's regaining form game by game with Juve's injured players back. Morata had a tough game however....

what decade ? he was on the verge of going to Bayern in 08 because until then he was not one of their top performers. Xavi became influential in 08-09.

I think he was kinda good yesterday, still made few mistakes, but his shots were mostly on target (some of them really good), and helped in the build-up a lot. But his decision making this year is sometimes so sh*t.. He is definitely going to regain form soon I think.

Actually I don't complain that Paul Pogba missed yesterday. After all, that meant that Yann Sommer managed to get a clean sheet! cheers
