One of the shows I'm most highly anticipating, can't wait to see the ideas of the movie being given greater time to develop over the course of a season.

Yep, Sundays ep was great as usual.

Scorsese had a lot of influence on Boardwalk, he had creative input, directed the pilot and basically set the tone for the series.
I'll watch Fear The Walking Dead if I hear it's good. Quite a few new shows I'm probably gonna end up watching this following TV year. Mr Robot, Fear The Walking Dead, Escobar show on Netflix, Jessica Jones, Vinyl, Preacher.
In my opinion Boardwalk Empire got better and better the further away it got from Scorsese's pilot and it's tone.
Sadly, Scorsese is about 2 decades past his expiration date as a good director, his mannerisms have gone incredibly stale.
I'd rather have quality HBO veterans Tim van Patten etc direct stuff instead of nonstop pointless tracking shots and pans that do not feel inventive at all anymore, since Casino.

Yes, though admittedly I've only beeny sticking to it as I'm interested to see how American TV digests recent Middle Eastern politics. Got a very propagandaish, or let's say educational lol, feel to it.
Just watched the better part of Humans, British remake of a Swedish series. Very recommendable. Quality take on the AI/Android theme, well written, well made.

This is a hipster comment if I ever saw one. Scorsese not being 'good' is the worst shit I've read in my life.
This freaking hyperbole mentality is killing me.

Re: The TV Series Thread - Part 4
I've always been a huge Scorsese fan but no movie since Casino was really good in my opinion. Some were ok, some just plain bad. In a way you could say Scorsese lost his purpose the moment he lost de Niro. Same could be said for de Niro btw.
If you feel differently that's fine.
I also said why I feel this way, because his hyperactive style for me got stale and feels only like an end in itself now.
That's why I didn't like the BE pilot, the style was superficial and a show off.
Show got better imo the more it took its story serious and didn't focus on stylish period displays.

Just because he's not in his prime doesn't mean he isn't good anymore. Wolf was in imo his best since Goodfellas and The Departed at the very least was good. I have no idea how you can say he hasn't made a good film since Casino. Baffles my mind in every way.

Scorsese had the best movie of the 2000s decade in The Departed The Aviator was another amazing film. Shuter Island was quite good. The Wolf Of Wall Street was a masterpiece, basically the stockbroker version of Goodfellas.

Re: The TV Series Thread - Part 4
liked The Departed a lot more than Casino (which is also great IMO)
but, Ā IIRC The Departed is an adaption from a Korean or Japanese movie called Internal Affairs, not sure how closely it follows the source material but IMO that takes away from Scorsese's stamp on the movie, I haven't found any of his other stuff since the 90s great, tbh.
will check out this next show though and it's incredibly easy to get an executive producer credit on a series while having little to no impact on the creative process ( if you're an established person in hollywood, at least)

Re: The TV Series Thread - Part 4
will explain myself more if needed, first of all so that there's no misunderstanding.
Of course he's a 'good' director. Even more so, a good bulk of his movies in the 70s 80s are absolutely outstanding masterpieces.
If I take the standard I derive from how good he was, his later movies have been really really weak, and sometimes annoying, for me.
That's not meant as a diss, as for me he's done infinitely more of his fair share to enrich my life with the great movies he made.
The Departed was a solid film, but I like the Hongkong original and compared to that the Departed ticks every box of what's wrong with Hollywood remakes.
Tedious psychologization in less rough-around-the-edges high production values, and above all CHANGING THE *bleep* ENDING TO A HAPPY END. Blerch.
That's why I don't like the departed, not because it's not a 'good' film.

No Uncle Phil though..
Won't even bother to watch it if he brings his annoying son to the show.
