Off the top of my head, he claimed that Pogba never said anything about wanting to go to Real Madrid, that it was all talk from his agent and people are mistakenly blaming Pogba for it.

He must've missed the interview where Pogba said "playing for Real Madrid under Zidane is a dream for anyone, but I'm happy at Manchester United". Such subtle hints are quite common among footballers, but they are hints nonetheless. I doubt we'd be linked to him if he hadn't said that. Hazard has done the same thing on many occasions.

Even if this were to happen, Pogba would likely go the other way, which means you would need yet another midfielder. Bale wants to sit out his contract at Real Madrid, De Ligt pretty much ruled out United, already. Great optimism, though hmm
