Also the biggest reason for Qatar (in their bid) was the ability to have the infrastructure, equipment, etc to help combat the heat and make everything "perfect" for everyone.

I wonder how much money went to the FIFA from selling licenced stuff at the licenced FIFA public events everywhere outside of the host countries and how that is influenced by not being able to stage numerous such events in a lot of European countries during the winter.

Moreover, I'll be curious whether the influx of football visitors to Qatar will be as high as in countries without restrictions on alcohol and a lot of other things (I wonder if the usual scantily clad women will be allowed in the stadiums and how they would deal with gay people showing too much affection to each other by accident if their teams win or stuff XD).

Still though it is a rather perplexing question right now 7 years prior to the event. I imagine Qatar as more capital oriented than religious. Pretty sure they'll let anything slide for the sake of profit in that region.

Fifa's members are not stupid. The minute Qatar got the WC it was clear it was going to be played in winter. 12 years is long enough for people to get used to the idea.

If anything , the WC is a good occasion to talk more about people suffering in Qatar .

Qatar is a horrible place to host it. Disgrace of an arab country. But that's how the gulf states are compared to north africa and even the levant.. living in the past with human traffiking and womans rights.

Host it in algeria. Great weather, oil money, and people absolutely LOVE footy. Plus our national team is really good. Morocco would be just as good. Plus, I could actually watch these games. Like in the stadium

Knew this would happen the whole thing is a disgrace, honestly how big corporations don't dissociate themselves from FIFA is a joke, the fans need to put more pressure on them Russia and Qatar will be a stain on the history of the World Cup.

I think a lot of things about Qatar is overstated.

Is it Europe? No, but it is a nice little country. I have been fortunate enough to go to Doha a few times on party days from work and its much better than a lot of places I have been. There was alcohol there at my hotel, but it was a "secret".

I am sure the people who just need alcohol will be able to get it when the time comes.

As a nation it has its own charm too. Its not like Dubai where you feel like you are living in a cheap western knockoff place. It feels more like Abu Dhabi for the folks who can tell a difference. 7 years away, but I'll probably go.
