Pjanic will ruin that midfield ffs.

Thankfully Aguero is elite

My fantasy team won't like it if Higuain's not starting.

Heard Higuain is recovering from a slight injury or something so he is rested for this one. Will play in the next match.  smoking

We're going for 5-3-2 because that's what we used vs Bosnia 8 months ago and it worked.

How do you feel about this alfred? I don't like it at all. Why are we changing our standard formation and that too for a team which isn't even elite?

Because Sabella is afraid of wingplay and Dzeko's height advantage over us.

Strange to show fear of an opponent several times weaker than us on paper. Also do not like us playing with one central midfielder partly because it is so reminiscent of 2010. Anyway thanks for the reply.

I could bulk in the negatives but I just want to give credit to Sabella for admitting he was wrong and changing his tactics haflway through the game. A match of two halves indeed.

Yea, it was a major change. The Argentina I saw in the second half with strong counters and short passing when in possession is what I saw a lot of in the qualifiers. I liked that; we need the fantastic 4+Gago and Masch starting every game. Make changes as the game goes on but our strength is in attack. So let's not try to play a defensive game.

Argentina's defense looked terrible after Sabella changed formation though.Aguero is clearly lacking game time.

Yes but before the change we were not creating anything either. I'd rather be in a situation where we can outscore the opponent than in one where we depend on own goals.

Our defense will never look good, especially with Romero.

Romero   don know how many times i have use this emoticon in this wc.
Aguero was not the deadly one. is he lacking game time or just a off game. but we need the deadly Aguero to outscore the opponents. with Aguero and Higuain clinical and Di maria in speed centre must be opened for Messi. .... ....
Expecting a better defense than this would be too much....As BC said our only hope is outscoring opponent not super defending like Italy.....

awesome part of this defending was when the guy (on complete left) laid his leg infront of Messi that Messi avoided with comfort.there were several replays in slow motion after the goal where the kind of defending looked quite weird... Laughing

And the best part of it was that the other defender, the one lying next to him, was trailing Messi and could maybe have thrown a last second block in but his teammate took him out with that mistimed tackle Laughing.

Im really worried for Argentina's chances after watching them. Their defense was pretty crap, Bosnia didnt play well and trouble us so often despite that. Messi and the front 2-3 will not defend as much as they are supposed to and our 2 midfielders tasked with that often get outnumbered vs the good counter attacking teams I can foresee that already. Luckily the GK looks decent and the defense isnt that crap it seems Razz

Higuain completely changing our attack and glad MEssi scored. He took a long time to settle.

Overall though Bosnia didnt play very well, so Im not sure if its down to Argentina making them not play well or just stopping them from playing well....but I just feel Argentina dont look as good as I want them to be if wanna win the WC. At least Bosnia the strongest opponent on paper is done though.

I said something similar before the game even started and after watching the match the thought is even more convincing. Messi had a shambolic 65 minutes or so and just when we were about to give up on him came up with arguably WC 2014's most outstanding individual moment so far. The way he stepped over the leg of the defender trying to tackle him was pure class. He reminded us that his name is still Messi. It is great that the monkey is now off his back. Even though he played well at WC 2010 all people talk about is that he did not score. Well he did now and his reaction with the shirt told us just what that means. In the first half when we were in shambles I appreciated how Mascherano still tried his best. Di Maria who I have touted so much was surprisingly below average all night. Gago did well as a substitute. Romero is sure giving us the jitters.

Overall did I and some others overrate this team? Perhaps yes but there is potential to grow a lot from here. I do see a lot of Messi dependence here though akin to Maradona 86. If ever he is not on the pitch this team may be too demoralized to even believe they can win.

the performance wasnt surprising to be honest. I expected it to be a circumspect approach and a close game and was relieved in the end to register 3 points. It was always going to be hard to begin a tournament in Brazilian soil. So I am not reading much into the match.
Glad we are done with it now. Now from next match onwards I am somewhat confident things will improve.
Next two matches however will decide how we are gonna fare in the competition. If we can get big wins and take the confidence with us into the K.O phase then we can do well, even our defence will be confident then.

NExt 2 games will be piss easy though, and I wont use those to measure how good the team is. Iran and Nigeria look very poor. It will be goals galore and match practice I think, hopefully Argentina will use those to gain
confidence and hit form as the tournament goes.

dont agree...poor team often make your life difficult...because they don try to score...i doubt Iran will come out...even vs Nigeria they decided to sleep in their box
