Fox Soccer Empty Fox Soccer

Post by BigNewFan Mon 12 Aug 2013 - 20:29

Hi everyone,
I just joined a few days ago and so far, I really like it here. I'm really psyched to watch the Premier League on the NBC platform. I'm glad that I am getting in at the start of the season, since I'm a newbie and still learning leagues and players. I discovered that when I bough the Fox Soccer Channel, it also came with BEin, so I can watch the, um, whoever plays on that network. French Leagues?

Anyway, I'm thinking of giving up Fox Soccer. I was just watching a Champions League game: Spartak Moscow vs. Barcelona and only just discovered it's a repeat from last year. There was no little graphic that said REPLAY.

I really don't understand Champions League. All of the best teams all over the world playing in competition?  Who is airing the current games? I guess I'll just watch when it comes to the final match, which is probably on ESPN anyway, right?

Does anyone else here think Fox Soccer is worth keeping, in light of NBC getting all the glory with the EPL?

The Champions League is a UEFA Competition, that is, there are clubs from the 54 football associations involved that belong to the UEFA (mostly European, but a handful of special members like Israel and Azerbaijan who technically aren't in Europe, but applied for UEFA membership).

Here you can find info on the UEFA and its members: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFA

For the Champions League initially 76 or 77 teams are eligible, depending on their success in their domestic leagues. These teams are then whittled down to 32 in a couple of knockout qualification rounds (22 are seeded though and don't have to go through the qualification and enter directly in the group stage).

The 32 teams then are drawn into 8 groups of 4, of which the 16 best go into a knockout tournament, to be eliminated in two-legged matches via last 16, quarter final, and semi final until the remaining two teams play a final in a previously selected location.

Right now the Champions League 2013/14 is in the 4th qualification round (aka Play-off round), where the last 10 teams are determined that will join the 22 seeded teams from the major leagues to compete in the 32 team group stage.

I'm sorry I can't answer your questions about US broadcasters, but I'm sure other people are better informed there.

I've been on these forums for a bit now and know everyone and their posting habits (your gonna love it here), I just don't post much and enjoy listening to everyone's opinions but I'll be glad to help.

Fox Soccer has the rights in the US to the Champions League, trust me your gonna want to watch this competition because it goes end of fall to end of spring. It is the cream of the crop for me where the best of the best compete!

BeIn Sport is new to the US and is mainly used for broadcasting Spanish La Liga and the French Ligue 1.

NBC now handles the English Premier League.

ESPN now handles some international games and every now and then via Watch ESPN online you can catch German Bundesliga or Italian League football.

It's difficult to find all footy games in the states, but it's possible if you try! Good luck and glad to have you here on the forums!

LOL. You guys are fun. I searched all over for a good football forum, but they were all full of cobwebs and spam for Viagra.

Thanks for your detailed breakdown on CL, Unrighteous. I'm just having trouble finding and understanding schedules. I'll figure it out. Don't want to bother you guys with all my newb questions.

(I'll look over in that CL forum that a mod directed me to a few days ago.)
Thanks!

I'd keep Fox Soccer tbh. It's still got the rights to the Champions League (for this season anyway, who knows if it will happen next season) so it will be airing the majority of those matches. It's not really useful for much else unless you like to watch the analysis shows.

Interesting to hear all the comments. I have Apple TV and just realized I have WatchEspn on there. I browsed the menu and see quite a few live and replay matches on there. Sweet.

Who do I support? I don't know. I like BayernMunich (my wife is German) Chelsea, Everton, Barca. I have to have an enemy so my villian is...Ronaldo and Real Madrid. Why? Because they're good and it's always fun to root for the underdog when they go up against them.

I'm looking forward to seeing all these EPL matches. There are a lot of teams I've never seen before. I want to pick a team that still wants to prove themselves and is hungry. So I'll probably go with an underdog.

Love your profile pic of Khaleesi, Firenze.

Support Spurs (Tottenham Hotspurs), best up and coming team in the EPL should make a push for the top 4 this year, great stadium, nice kits, play good attractive football....and you won't be considered a glory hunter like you will if you just start supporting Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Barca...etc., plus they are about to cash in £100 million on there best player. This is just my opinion tho

support w/e team you enjoy watching most

Ugh nbc will do a terrible job airing the epl, the prem, Barclays, etc etc

I just can't see them having a set schedule especially with all the other sports that will be on that network.

Same with fox sports (they also have a new sports network/rebranding) and during a Madrid game with I believe Everton they didn't start to air it until 10-15 minutes into the game despite it supposed to be airing. Instead it was a random baseball game that had pushed on through into the next time slot.

And worse was the final with Madrid and Chelsea. Only espn Deportes had it available and espn Deportes for whatever reason isn't in HD. Espn 1 or 2 didn't show it, neither did ESPN3, NBC didn't, no one except espn Deportes on Verizon fios.

Hopefully this changes

Don't even worry. There are many people on this forum who'd be more than happy to help inform you on any issue in regards to football and it's no bother at all. Living in the States I love informing new fans to the sport about the sport and while it can be a lot to take in (given the multitude of competitions) I enjoy helping others further understand this awesome sport. So feel free!

B-Mac, funny, I was just looking at a profile of Tottenham on the NBC Sports LiveExtra App. I'm also interested in Crystal City. So far it looks like NBC has done a great job of promoting the upcoming EPL season. Did you see the funny ad campaign where an American football coach becomes the coach of Tottenham?

ioilersrock448
Hey, great minds, right?

FalcaoPunch, I can see your skepticism. We'll have to wait and see. From everything I've read--and I have been obsessively reading about the deal--every game will be broadcast live across a bunch of platforms: TV, mobile, tablets, overflow channels, etc. Too much to go into here, but I'm sure you've read about it. It seems like they have really dedicated the channel to doing it right.

Something Red. Awesome...

Barca 2011, thanks much for the hospitality.

I know this is about fox but does BeIN in Español air the live matches at the same time as regular BeIN? I've noticed they sometimes will air something simultaneously but for the most part have different programming.

Not sure. I just started watching it. When I see a game I try to go online and look at a schedule to see if it is live. No luck yet, though. I'll try to find out.

Uh, actually, I haven't seen beIN Espanol. Everything I've seen so far has been in English. Granted, I haven't watched a lot yet.

I'm fairly certain Fox Soccer is getting removed with the addition of Fox Sports 1 & 2.

All the football/soccer programming will be moved to those networks. They have a new show premiering that will air daily called Fox Soccer Daily
