If Fabregas' career so far at Barca is looked at, he's barely ever played in the Xavi role. Plus he's not as nifty as Xavi is either.

Although Barca could always tactically change a bit and try Fabregas there.

If he doesn't play in the Xavi role, I think it's best he leaves. Iniesta still has a while to go and Messi too. Fabregas is a player who should be starting every game.

Xavi role

I have seen a few if their pre season games and when Xavi isn't playing his role doesn't even exist in the team.

I said before that no one can replace Xavi in that role so you tweak the tactics.

It seems this new manager is smart enough to realise that

But said player will always be an inferior version.

The "Xavi role" dont even exist. All "it" is, is Xavi has a specific way of playing. The player replacing him will never be able to do those same things.

Cesc has to be his own player, but he has to be effective doing it within the team concept. Thus far he has failed to do so, we will see this season if its different.

Any player that replaces Xavi will be inferior, however as long as the player has good potential, then that should be fine.

In terms of the role, I think the CM at Barca has to have certain attributes, in order to play the style effectively.
