Agree 100%. I read a blood boiling tidbit that the club are waiting for him to let them know his plans rather than offering him a new contract. For someone who is in a dilemma whether to stay or leave there surely couldn't have been a better way to help him make up his mind.

I agree, I think Thiago is as good as gone but I won't jump to conclusions of how hard the club is actually working to keep him because you never know whats going on behind the scenes. I think we will seriously have to find a replacement. Cesc backing up Xavi is a total joke and Sergi is not ready/on that level to be considered

You should really question your board if/when Thiago leaves. Pretty much every signing you've made in the past 4 years has been mediocre at best you've let gems like Eto'o, Yaya Touré and Thiago leave (for peanuts I may add).

So Villa is gone to Atletico for only 5.1m. And we only get 2.1M now. Man do we love to get ripped off, whether it's how much we pay for players or how much we pay for them.

Villa is 31, almost finished and this year he had an 11 milion salary.

The 50% of the future sale might not be a terrible thing if Villa has a great season for Atletico and scores 25+. Maybe a big team comes around to get him for his final years and pays something for him.

Free if no one pays 10m for him at 31, no one will pay half that much at 32. Not to mention the risk of injury is very high. We reportedly had offers twice as high we did not take. Its a bad deal from any perspective.

Well, it depends. Press says Villa had 11 milion of salary this year. He won't have that big of a salary next year, so the transfer could be easier and more expensive.

F***, Im sad to see him go.... I cant believe it, that injury affected him so much....he was such a class act, harded ever so hard for us in any situation....

Wish him good luck, I will always be a fan of him, will remember the big impact he had when he came to replace Ibra His killer instinct and eye for goal remains rare, and I love this style.... too bad football and at Barca these days, something else is needed I guess...together will his age....

You guys are officially become the laughing stock of transfer season. You might as well kept your dignity and gave him to Atlético for free as an act of goodwill, perhaps easing a future transfer the other way (Filipe Luís anyone?)

I just got to know this and it makes no bloody sense. At least someone has got to explain why the Tottenham deal did not happen and why the sale price is so much less than that proposed deal.

It seems so ironic. So many thought Torres would be back at Atletico this season. Villa if anything could have been back at Valencia. Instead its Villa who ends up at Atletico. No one can predict such things I guess.

Another piece of news is that Abidal's transfer to Monaco seems to have been confirmed.

Apparently the fee and personal terms for Villa to Tottenham were agreed, and he was going to have a medical soon in London. But then Atletico came calling and well, a big Spanish team near his hometown in his home country and CL...he must have been swayed that he'd rather go there instead. Which makes sense.

Barca letting him go for such a low fee does not, however.

It is quite likely that he chose to go to Atleti rather than abroad, I remember that while at Valencia several premier teams were interested in him and he publicly stated that he preferred to stay in Spain. That seems within character.

They wud hav played him on lw as avb plays 4-3-3 quite often. But barca should not have let him go for such less amount simply on villa's wish. athletico have sold falcao for 60 something and they dont have 10 m for a replacement. Surely a joke barca agreed for 5m.

Oliver was already getting time with Altetico's first team last season. Kid's going to be a beast. But he isn't the answer to replacing Xavi. He would be perfect to replace Cesc though lol

Ade and Defoe are jokes and if Villa came to Tottenham he would not be going to play LW.

iirc due to third party ownership, Atletico received very little (if any?) money from Falcao's move to Monaco.
