So Stannis is heading to fight against The Whitewalkers?

I hope he gets more screentime next season then, him and the onion knight are GOAT.

Great actors, sorely underutilized so far.

The Arya stabbing scene is perfect Proud
I was afraid tgat they wouldn't put the scene because it was the tickler who was going to be killed. I was looking forward to this scene as much as even the RW. But he got killed in the tv version early on. But they substituted a Frey Proud

Ned Stark had a kid called John Snow

People associate Snow with Winter above all other things.

John Snow is north of the wall

I believe that 'Winter' is just a symbol for John Snow. The white walkers will

This has crossed my mind a lot. In fact, I have a feeling it's a strong foreshadowing for Jon's role in the show/books.

However, I believe "Winter is Coming" is also very literal as in winter will come and the Starks will prevail type of thing. Someone in this thread pointed out how Starks become weak during the summer years and this current summer has been going on for a decade or so, and it sort of symbolizes the Starks downfall.

yeah i said that (p)ages ago. Although my personal theory about the Starks didn't have to do about them prevailing ; it was about surviving . The winter in Westeros is something all fear. When you get to think of what is happening in Westeros summer , i can only imagine what's going to be when the winter is there Laughing

The words Winter Is Coming , the Stark words , is all about survival and the Starks have survived countless winters in the lore , never forgetting what winter means to them and why it is like that . If anybody is going to survive the coming shitstorm , it will be the Starks , those who are still left behind anyway Laughing .

However , with their army vastly defeated , their home in ruins , their lands sacked and burned , they won't look to prevail against their enemies when the winter comes. The winter will be everybody's enemy when it comes and it's becoming evident as it goes on . They can only look to survive and that's why the North always wants a Stark in Winterfell , because they exist for 'Winters' before honor , gold , glory or anything else. Winter forces their real nature to come out , like wolves have their fur for the cold , the Starks have the winter to survive . That's why i said in it's absence they become weak .

The long summer was indeed their downfall but the winter which is about to come will be their salvation , because it will force them to survive before anything and fight their enemies for them. I can't tell if they will prevail in the end , but the chances of this to matter before their lives will be non existant. What will be left to prevail at when everywhere in Westeros people die because they don't have an apple to eat Laughing

The Starks as a House have lost their war and everything they thought they won in the long summer. As individuals though , the winter will be their biggest ally , no matter how crazy it may sound at the moment .

As for the finale , it was delicately done. Strong acting and practicaly everything is set for the next season in the best fashion possible. Basicaly , the whole of the episode was a long cliffhanger.

My favourite was with Ygritte and Jon Snow . That acting between them was strong , you could feel for both of them . Depressing and so well made.

Tywin and Tyrion and Jaime and Cercei Proud

I was dissapointed a bit with Bran's storyline , no black door.. The Young Wolf parading in the Twins loooool , you mad Stark fans Proud

Balon and Asha/scene.. again , strong acting . Daenerys is showing to be the hope of her people , which is something none existant at Westeros hmm Is Daenerys Westeros's only hope after all hmm

Overall , slow paced but very , very quality episode. I can't forget about the scene with Ygritte and Jon tbh , dem feels Sad

I would recommend starting at the red wedding. Just look for the last catelyn chapter. Some characters have been switched so as to not make the the ensamble even larger.

Going forward on books four and five if you are reading as an ebook I would recommend looking for 'a ball of beasts' on google. Books four and five were separated geographically. This version merges them in what would be the right order. I'm going yo give it a read myself soon.

I am reading A Feast For Crows these days. Few days ago Goodbrain suggested that i should just read them in order and i'am following his advice at the moment. What's your opinion ?

Should i read them in order or read this version you speak of ? I was especialy concerned about something Goodbrain said , that if i did this , i would soon know a lot about some characters and it would ruin the suspence.

Something last , i've progressed a bit in AFFC , must have read 10 chapters so far , could be 11 iirc. Is it worth it/possible to read this version instead now ?

Please dont skip chapters. Just continue from where you left off. You will miss a lot of great writing. There are a lot of things that are much better than those in the tv. The dialogues, the backstories, thoughts of some characters...are EXCELLENT.Skipping is a great crime, especially to yourself.

In my opinion I would do it the combined way. Look at the chapter list and catch up on the ADWD that you have missed out on. While I read the books 4 years ago I wish I could've done it this way. Believe me you'll get tired of some of the characters that are overrepresented in both books.

I've asked around at the westeros forum, and while I won't post a link as there might be spoilers in the rest of the thread or links, the majority of the people that have read it both ways like the combined way more.

Some posts:
Taken as seperate entities I found AFFC and ADWD to be tiresome and meandering, once combined in this fashion they moved along at a much crisper pace. I would recommend it.
I used the Boiled Leather version. And for me is far far far better than the original GRRM's.
I used the Boiled Leather version. And for me is far far far better than the original GRRM's.
I used the Boiled Leather reading order on my last re-read. It improves the narrative enormously in my opinion. The world building of AFFC feels much less of a drag. That said, even read together, this "middle act" of ASOIAF suffers from the lack of a real climax
I can see how it might ruin the suspense, but from what people have said it actually works better dramatically to have Cercei spend an episode bitching about Tyirion only to have Tyrion show up at the next chapter, rather than the next book. And there are many instances like this. The timing might not be perfect, but thematically and dramatically I think it would work better.

Post by RealGunner Tue Jun 11, 2013 1:59 am

Was a great finale, but surprised to see no cliff hangers or 'WTF' moments.

King's landing

The small chamber meeting was amazing lol. Joffery getting bitch slapped by both Tywin and Tyrion Laughing

Tyrion was amazing. Great acting and dialogues. I am afraid to make him my favourite character. If they kill him...

Feel so bad for Sansa though. Should have left with the Hound.

Jamie is finally home. Best not shave his beard off.

North

Finally revealed that the guy torturing Theon was Bolton's bastard. Iwan Rheon is such a fantastic actor. Misfits and now GoT.

Wonder why The Hound is helping Arya now. That's an interesting arc.

Brother hood

Sam finally home. Jon snow getting shot by Ygritte loooool. I am sure he will not die.

Dragons

daenerys cheers

You would do best to remember that all men must die RG. And GRRM is a particularly sadistic man.
