On his first day he said he wanted "a poor church for the poor" and its only now that he is turning socialist?

Yes, it's not as though the teachings upon which the entire Christian church are founded have any sort of socialist tones to them.

I can scarcely conjure in my mind, filled as it is with over a decade's worth of education and teachings by a private, Catholic school, a single instance where 'God', or any of his supposed envoys or expositors, lent support for the systemic confiscation of one's earnings/holdings by a third party for the purpose of their being disseminated to those deemed (by whom, on what criteria, and on what authority on both counts aforesaid, I have no idea) more in need of it.

Charity and socialism are not synonymic. The voluntary giving of one's wealth, with the benefaction's size, recipient, and frequency all being decided by its giver, free of influence and unmolested, is not the same as a bureaucratic, state-mandated, state-run redistribution of the assets of and from those decreed less needing of it to those adjudged more so.

Pope Francis has been saying a lot of good, sensible things, giving the Church's values a much-needed update. It's just a pity that every non-conservative (what's the opposite of conservative anyway?) view he expresses probably brings him more enemies within the Church.
