O Clássico - The Title Decider Empty O Clássico - The Title Decider

Post by RealGunner Wed May 08, 2013 10:37 pm

Benfica are on top of Liga Sagres with 74 points. Unbeaten so far.
Porto are 2nd in Liga Sagres with 72 points. Also Unbeaten so far.

The derby will be for the title. Benfica have the advantage that they can draw the match and win the title. However, they have the EL final on 15th May. 3 days after the derby

Porto are at home so that favors them.

Match will be at 8:30 BST on Saturday 11th May

don't want to hijack the thread, but I was listening to the Guardian Football Weekly podcast and they brought up the fact that the team currently in third on the brink of CL football have an average attendance of only 1,000 and their Stadium only holds 5K. Liga Portuguesa Proud

Hope they can hold on and get into the groups (preferably ours Razz)

The scheduling obviously needs to be better if a title deciding match is 3 days prior to a European final.

Yeah some of the Benfica fans were talking about on a NUFC forum....

They work well, that's basically it. While other portuguese clubs struggle to pay their salaries, promising more than they can handle, they are rigorous and honest to all the players and staff. Instead of buying tons of brazilians, they invest in lower leagues players. Portuguese players. I bet they will have some nice deals by the end of the season as well.

Oh, and they try to play and have possession. They don't sit waiting, no matter what's the opponent. Even in Estádio da Luz, they tried to press higher than most teams. That's a key factor. Positive football = positive results.

2 games left. If they win one, or Braga fails to win both, they will be in the Champions League playoff. While spending way less than Sporting or Braga. By only being there, even if they get destroyed, the 2013/14 season is paid. Their manager, Paulo Fonseca, will surely progress in his career. Braga may be the next step for him. I would keep an eye on him, he's still young, 40.

What one of them said, it would be great if they could qualify for the group stage.

It's saturday noon actually.

I think that game' significance has dropped due to Wigan losing last night.

but Villa will want to ensure safety with a point just in case Wigan beats Arsenal.

They are talking about Pacos de Ferreira, who are currently 3rd and look set to qualify for CL ahead of Braga.

Btw Sporting have gone complete and utter crap mode. Their youth is amazing, how have they been so shite?

If The game ends a draw. Porto will probably be the first ever unbeaten team in a season to NEVER win the league.

Messiah "Aggerswagger" wrote:Btw Sporting have gone complete and utter crap mode. Their youth is amazing, how have they been so shite?

Because they have no money and keep selling their good players cheap. Sold Moutinho() to Porto for 11 M, selling their best striker Wolfswinkel for 10 M to Norwich (to pay salaries). Worst part of it is they never go to Champions League anymore, and this year they might not even get into Europa League, so no money is coming in. They're on a downward spiral. Not sure how they're going to get out of this. They have high hopes with this new president, let's see how that goes.

About the game... I'm really excited. Never expected Benfica to lose points at home this week, but thanks to Estoril, we are now only 2 points behind. We have to win. If we lose... they'll be champions in our stadium. That would break my heart Sad

The problem is that even if we win... we'll play Paços de Ferreira away on the final round, which will be extremely dangerous since they are playing really well.

We're in for a rough ending cheers
