Public Warning
I saw this on another forum and I thought it was a good idea, I don't know if you guys want to implement it or not or if things are good the way they are, but I thought I'd put it out there anyway.
There is a forum that I peruse through sometimes (I lurk it to be honest) where whenever someone makes a statement that breaks the rules - be it trolling, excessive swearing or whatever - a mod will put at the bottom of that post in red letters "The user was warned for this post". If it was worse, in red text it would say "The user was temporarily banned for this post" or "The user was banned for this post".
I thought of this because of a back and forth between Sepi and Dost in a thread, where Sepi mentioned something about double standards and Dost said something about him having warned many Italian posters before etc etc.
My point is- with this red text at the bottom, posters can clearly see what draws the line between playful banter/trolling, and actual trolling that will get you a -25% reduction. People will see what kind of comments are getting you in trouble of losing 25 or 50%, instead of just trying to draw the line on their own.
While I feel like it's a bit of a defense against stupidity-posters should know where to draw the line, after all- I think it's a decent idea.
Here is an (humorous) example:

Just putting it out there. Food for thought.

Re: Public Warning
I would definitely cosign this idea and would love to see it implemented at some point in the future.
Not much else to say as CBarca covered it all. Thank you for bringing the idea here, I look forward to seeing what the others think about it.

Re: Public Warning
I do this sometimes(When I'm not doing anything while browsing the forum) but instead of placing the warning below the sanctioned post, I edit the whole post by removing it then replacing it with a warning issue.
It's a good idea but it does invite more posts about the issued warning rather than the topic of the thread itself.

Not if we'd make clear that any public complaint about the warning there gets a DOMA warning, too.Jack Daniels wrote:It's a good idea but it does invite more posts about the issued warning rather than the topic of the thread itself.
Look at it this way: if a player gets a yellow for a foul on the pitch and another nags around and complains to the ref, he can expect a yellow for dissent, too. It's just the same. ^^

Re: Public Warning
Public warnings invite public complaints or arguing, which can and will result in further derailing of threads and warnings for those involved. Most posts that receive warnings are either removed or edited as well, which would lead to confusion over why the pubic warning was made. We have the PM system (which 4chan doesn't, for example) so we make use of it. Still, if the infraction is minor or one that appears often within a thread, many times we will leave a notice in red or as an "edit" at the bottom of the post. However, it is not a practice we will be implementing fulltime for the reasons stated above.

Re: Public Warning
Does DOMA mean the decision can't publicly be discussed, or can the user who got warned/banned discuss by PM with the Admin/mod?

Re: Public Warning
I am not sure if you can still private message when banned, but I believe that you are able to private message any moderator/administrator and ask why you were docked points or had a post removed. Let us be honest with ourselves, there is probably one moderator/administrator that you feel comfortable reaching out to.
DOMA basically means that you are not to publicly discuss administrative decisions. Although, that is not to say that you should message any moderator/administrator and feel that you can be rude because it is not in public.

Appreciate the offer mate but this is a free run forum so none of us our paying for it and even if we do have to spend on extra things, we would really hate to ask the posters lol

Re: Public Warning
Fair enough Redoranje, in the forum I mentioned earlier, the mods send a PM explaining their decision to warn/temp ban/ban as well.
I just thought it was an interesting concept and I wanted to see what people thought of it. Your reasons are fair

Re: Public Warning
I think JD has the right idea. Remove the post and replace it with "user was warned for *blablabla*
either that or nothing...
because as mentioned people will just be like "OMG he got warned for that waaah waaah wahh", would just end up causing more problems.

Should really drop you another 25% for DOMA and Off-Topic here, tbh. Stop using unrelated public threads.
