Messi was unable to shine for his national team with suggestions that he is just a club player once again coming to the fore and Alves has offered an explanation to those theories.
"In Argentina they want Messi to be what he is for Barcelona, but he does not have the same team-mates," Alves told the press, as reported by Sport.es.

That is somewhat true. They lack creativity in the midfield, and that is causing almost the whole NT to be underperforming. They need more creative midfielders, and use Aguero alot more, and Higuain since they have such issues with scoring without a poacher.

Alves is a bit arrogant though, I mean, granted, they aren't as good as Barcelona players but it isn't as if Messi plays for American Samoa; Argentina has great players too, and with the right coach and mentality they could win big.

Teams don't try as hard in friendlies as they do in competitions. And managers testing new tactics, players etc..
