There might other better defensive midfielders such s DDR in terms of other attribute such as positioning, anticipation and overall ability but when it comes to DESTRUCTIVE duties I honestly believe Gustavo is the best in that role.
He's heavily under-rated, he has proven that he's a better defensive midfielder than Martinez, before Martinez arrival in Munich many would have rated him above Gustavo because they simply pay more attention to Martinez, however after one one competiton between the 2, it is now clear which is better between the 2.

Vidal has been near perfect last season, but this season he might as well be one of the Benders, not too impressive in the last couple of match days.

Yeah, very well put Vidal has been off form a bit this season
Still fantastic at times but I think everyone, including himself, has greater expectations just because of last season
