On the face of it, yes. But then you have to consider how many GOAT players Italy has had throughout history. The list is endless and spans decades. It's impossible to know who is better than who without categorising players by position and time. He's the best Italian midfielder of the last ten years, perhaps.

For me he is up there with the likes of Roberto Baggio imo especially since many Italians i've seen consider him as the Italian GOAT.

Pirlo did well, however we have to remember it's vs England. Most lower sides dominate England in terms of possession. England gave Pirlo too much room as well.

In my TV Pirlo was unable to break down England's bus for 120 minutes and then scored a great penalty that counts the same as every other penalty.

Pirlo killed england? Nope.

Had Pirlo been Xavi and Italy Spain or Barça, they would have been accused of being boring, defensive and playing posession cattenacio.
