Wayne Rooney vs Karim Benzema

So, who do you guys think is the better player ?

For me it's a close one. Though Wayne maybe edges it.

Well the consensus about 8 months ago was that Rooney was a far more complete player generally better in all aspects.

I'd say that gap has lessened significantly to the point where some would be prepared to say Benz has better passing and vision and play making than Rooney , which was the core of the argument used against him 8 months ago.

Me...I don't know to be honest, I watch United play every now and again, and I'm pretty biased here, but I think it's pretty interesting how different the debates will be setup compared to just 8 months ago.

I'm going to go ahead and give my opinion that Benzema is better in open play and within the natural flow of the game. Rooneys advantages at set pieces etc may very well make him superior (certainly not in my eyes , but maybe in yours).He takes, penalties, free kicks corners etc, and while Benzema doesn't get hose opportunities, I suppose the skillset counts for something.

Rooney also is much better in the air.

I think some of my fellow United fans overrate Wayne.

Both are good at linking up, 1-2's and the likes.

Benzema is the better dribbler, these days, Wayne hardly goes past anyone.

Wayne's the better Long Passer.

Benzema, is more consistent.

Also its worth noting. Wayne is Uniteds penalty taker, if Benzema were Madrids PK taker, I'm sure he would have notched up a few more goals this season.

I try not to focus on the goals when evaluating players, stats are misleading and overrated in my eyes, in the few United games I've watched I haven't seen Rooney miss many decent oppurtunites, which I gave seen Benzema do.

Goals and stats and stuff depend so much on what you have behind you and what type of system you play in, I think Rooney is quite possibly a better finisher though I don't know for sure. He doesn't have Ozil behind him.

Rooney has a better long shot as well.

I still think Benzema doesn't entirely know what he wants to be as a player, sometimes he wants to be a AM sometimes he wants to be a striker, he has to learn how to maximize all these qualities at the same time.

Rooney possibly understands his role in the team more, adjusts well when neccesary.

That's a tough one....I will have to go with rooney,he's just too complete.he's more deadly in front of goal and a better passer IMO but not by a big margin

I think Rooney at this point is the better player but as it has been pointed out not by a big margin.

I think I'd take Rooney too, although like everyone else has said theres not much in it, but i think what Rooney may not have in versatility in comparison to Benz he makes up in physicaltiy and arial ability, also Rooney is the type of player who can make something out of absolutley nothing which is invaluable to any team

I think Benzema's passing is as good as Rooney.

Karim Benzema because Wayne Rooney seems to have some temper control issues that can get into his way (see current suspension). What good is a better player if he risks not to play. (That's also why I don't really rate Mario Balotelli).

Tbh to me its the other way round.... i'd rather Rooney as a CF but id rather Benz as an SS/AM....

Benzema. He's simply more technical.

It's hard to say a clear winner tbh, I think both of them haven't been used to their best potential yet. Well Rooney had 1 super season, the year after Ronaldo left.


Based on this season though I think Benzema just had a better year.

Rooney definitely

benz is the overall better player but rooney is more decisive, but i would go with benz cause he can still get a lot better

I agree, he is better with the ball.
But Rooney's got a slightly better football brain, imo, and can play quite well in midfield, too. Roam around.

Its 50-50 to me, depends what a team needs.

Benzema can roam around.

I think Benzema has really blossomed this season, and he is doing okay in the Euros too.

As of now, Rooney is the more seasoned player, but in one or two seasons i can see Benz becoming better than Rooney.
