Pep managing Qatar. Possible?
Pep has history with Qatar and even backed the Qatar2020 World Cup bid:
Guardiola played in Qatar and he always mentions how well he was treated when he was there (not surprised, Sheiks know how to treat you yo)
So now that he has taken a rest you have to assume that the people in charge in Qatar are at least going to try and tempt him to manage their national team by 2020.
Thoughts?

Re: Pep managing Qatar. Possible?
It might be more feasible than any other team to be honest.
Quatari clubs may give him more operational room than larger countries although I don't see him there grinding it out for 8 years waiting for a world cup.

Interesting statement.
Would it be more ambitious to manage a Serie A side? or more ambitious to manage Qatar?

Would lose my respect for him. He never cared for money in Barca. Why would he care about money now? There's nothing worthwhile in Qatar for a coach in the beginning of his career.

Like I said Pep going to Qatar wouldn't be "selling out" he has a history there.
And a good world cup run for Qatar in 2020 with Pep was coach would be almost fairy tale like stuff.

Re: Pep managing Qatar. Possible?
I really wouldn't be surprised if he takes the job. They would be pressure for them (Qatar) to do something successful but not like what he was going through at Barcelona. And Pep always seem like the kind of man that cared more about his own mental and physical health than money.
But all in all, whatever he does, I hope he comes back to club managing. Would honestly love to see him coaching in the big time again. Maybe Brescia...

If Qatar wins the Asian cup or the gets top 4 place in WC with Guardiola he might become best national team coach ever.

Wouldn't be ambitious to manage Qatar. But, i get what you mean, and in that regard it would be ambitious to manage a team like Mexico.

Even with Guardiola, Mourinho and all other best coaches, Qatar will still always be a shitty fake country with an amateur team.

it is roumered that qatar offered him 20m a year after they were won the WC hosting bid. I wouldnt be surprised if he went there but he'd be wasting his time for zero achievements

If he won the WC with Quatar it would dwarf anything any other coach has ever done in history.

Re: Pep managing Qatar. Possible?
It would be ambitious to manage Qatar because there's a huge challenge. If Pep is not successful to some extent in taking on that challenge, it would be hugely damaging to his reputation. On the other hand, reputable coaches like Guus Hiddink have managed Sth. Korea and Australia and had a degree of success which served to improve his standing as a coach.kiranr wrote:Forza Rossoneri wrote:kiranr wrote:Depends on how ambitious he is.

this is true, hiddink got his farce of a reputation when south korea robbed their way to a world cup semifinal, it's only natural that whoever coaches qatar at the world cup will get the same treatment when they inevitably reach the quarter/semis
