If we got rid of our old Guard and he gained some people skills then yes.

Old guard will be gone soon... At least the authority they have..
Re: The official next manager thread.
I really didn't fancy AVB football at all while he was here, download a few of his Porto games months back. Well his system relies a lot on the forwards, and midfield barely gets involved in attacks.
Also play highline without pressing.

Most of the legends have, in fact...especially those who were his former teammates. Desailly, Poyet, LeBoeuf, TAF, and a few others. In fact, I think the only one who hasn't come out in support of him is Vialli.....

Vialli still thinks Robbie was one of those that got him the sack. He fell out with Zola, Deschamps and a couple of other players in the team. He's still butthurt after all these years.

Yea, he was pretty cold when Robbie was first given the job as well. Well, before he backpedaled on twitter, that is.

That doesn't mean he doesn't support Chelsea though. He's just still mad at his old teammates lol.

Re: The official next manager thread.
As good as RDM is at man management, I hope he sorts out our defensive issues.
I doubt just a signing or two can solve everything. We conceded really cheap goals and our marking at set pieces aren't that good

Re: The official next manager thread.
Only reason we suck at set pieces is no Drogba. when he played he always cleared the ball. Now we lost him we have to fix that.

Re: The official next manager thread.
AVB was the only reason this issue even came up. We had the best defense(along with City) in Carlo's last season. Dunno how that same back 4 turned so horrible under AVB.Soul wrote:As good as RDM is at man management, I hope he sorts out our defensive issues.

Re: The official next manager thread.
Terry and Cole didn't like AVB, plus Bosingwa was played lots, DL4 was the only one playing well.

Wha??? Luiz was one of our worst defenders when AVB was in charge. His attempts at being clever with the ball around our box, being caught out of position far too often, and refusing to clear his lines, among other things, cost us countless goals. Such as the third goal against Napoli that very nearly could have cost us the tie.
It was only until after RDM came in and restored some order and discipline to our defense that Luiz really started to improve.

Re: The official next manager thread.
AVB conceded but he should have scored, both our strikers were out of form... and very badly out of form.
Re: The official next manager thread.
I get what you are saying about set pieces Kick, but don't you think we easily allowed them goal scoring opportunities?
On paper, Cole Luiz/Terry Cahill Ivanovic are among the best Back 4 in the world. But we had to rely on really last ditch defending by them and a whole lot of luck not to condede, especially in the latter parts of the CL campaign
It's not just the case with RDM or AVB. If you guys remember how easily we started conceding when Hiddink was there, its the same thing all over again. I didn't forget how Bolton (is it?) scored around 3 goals within half an hour at the bridge and we were lucky to escape with a win in time to face Liverpool for the epic CL knockout fixture
Its gotta be a coaching problem; not just a management issue. Our defense has never really been the same without Steve Clarke
