Perhaps not. Maldini, Roberto Carlos, Thuram and Cafu have all achieved plenty with their clubs and country and being an important member of their squad. While Alves has been part of why Barcelona have been so successful in recent years, he has yet to perform well in seleção.
Dont care about his Brazil games as the entire team has underperformed for a while. Not Alves fault.
I have not seen any other fullback dominate an entire flank on his own like Alves has the last few seasons. The one who came closest was Carlos but as good as he was going forward,Alves offers more going forward.
having Alves is like having an extra man on the field.Guy has been the best RB in the world for like 6,7 years now.And for those who lay stock on the performing for other teams requirement, his Sevilla exploits are there.
Guy is a freak.
Alves better than Carlos
What's next ? Pique is better than Nesta ? Puyol better than Baresi ?

Re: Martin Montoya
What makes Carlos so much better? Seriously?
Other than, he played for Madrid.

Like Pep said earlier, the club is set at RB for the near future...Montoya is going to own that right side, both for club & La Furia Roja

Re: Martin Montoya
He has to perform well against Athletic. He will surely start because I doubt with the problems with 3-4-3 that he has to start. He has deserved his spot and needs to retain his reputation... If he can perform in another big occasion I am certainly convinced he will do absolutely well!

Muniain against Montoya. I'd love to see that encounter.
Re: Martin Montoya
The only of 4 promoted in this summer players that I'm sure that he will make it there. Will be at least good RB, maybe not WC, but he will be on the level that will give him a right to play there. I hope Montoya won't disappoint me, I believe in him. Does he have any nickname?

His teammates call him Monty. Very good player, keen to watch him at the Olympics. I think he can be Spain's solution to the RB spot.

I was disappointed against Senegal.
Still don't understand how Apzilueta is not starting.

He's started ahead of Azpilicueta for a while... Milla clearly prefers him and he's done an excellent job there.

Re: Martin Montoya
Terrible match by the Spaniard. Gifted the goal to Japan and his defending was questionable throughout the match.

Apzilueta is deceived worse than Llorente.....dat anti Basque pro Catalonian bias.

Montoya had a bad game, yes, though I feel that he is better option that Apzilueta. It was a bad game, hopefully it won't happen again.

Re: Martin Montoya
Not an impressive performance from Montoya but I wouldn't say it was poor/bad...Lack of sharpness from many on the night was clear, I don't know if it was fatigue, overconfidence or simply poor preparation but Milla didn't have this team ready

Re: Martin Montoya
I'm not saying they lost because of Montoya....they lost because the coach is retarded and his continued selection of Monetoya over Apzilueta for over a year despite a clear difference between their experience and ability is one of the many many things that has led me to this conclusion.
There's also the simple matter that he was largely at fault for both goals but whatever lol.

Re: Martin Montoya
Didnt hear any comments about how this guy played vs madrid.
Personally, i thought he did well, considering he didnt even dream of playing, let alone for that long, with 10 men.. He didnt let ronaldo bully him too much
I like how his feet are so quick and his passing is good. Defensively he will improve. This year if d.alves is sidelined for a significant period, i can see montoya really have a good season.
I hope he starts vs valencia this sunday

Re: Martin Montoya
He was good, but i prefer Aves, especially against valencia and without Tito there. Missing Alves was one of the reasons we lost supercopa. We should try win against valencia to keep the pressure on rm.

Montoya will need to put in another solid performance against Valencia. Last time they played them, Montoya was at fault for their goal. Hope he does well!

Re: Martin Montoya
Montoya is easily our second best RB. Adriano is, for some reason, ordinary on the right side despite being a good left-back.
The kid deserves a few games here and there this season, and should play almost all in the cup. He does nothing wrong. Can't expect the same presence as Alves on that side, but he always does a good job.

Re: Martin Montoya
Great for him and he deserves it. Will have to battle it out with Azpilicueta and Carvajal to be Spain's no. 1 RB, but I am confident he'll be able to grap that position. Damn, Spain just keeps on producing quality players...
